We will have to wait and see how the 21mm carries the limited name forward.
that will tell us where future Limiteds will go

I cant wait for a good review on this lens. It will determine if I will be getting it or not.

A SLR ultrawide is quite a bit more difficult to make than a mirrorless one. This is one of the very few disadvantages of having a proper viewfinder.
The D FA 21mm Limited likely won't match the Sony spec by spec. They're of a similar size - both somewhat larger than the FA 31mm; of a similar focal length; but one is by necessity a quite retrofocus design. The difference might be the maximum aperture.
I bet the Pentax also has a much better corrected vignetting, a huge -3EV on the Sony (hidden by software, of course).
Then I think it should be able to match $800 Nikon 20mm F1.8G, same weights as FA 31mm, in both price and imagine quality.

The build quality should be better, and I hope it will have less LoCA and a more uniform performance. Its rendering should be better as well.

The Nikon has been build in much higher quantities, so the price for the D FA 21mm Limited will be at least 50% higher.
Produktvergleich Pentax smc FA 31mm 1.8 AL Limited silber (20280/20290), Pentax smc FA 20mm 2.8 schwarz (22880), Nikon AF 20mm 2.8D schwarz (JAA127DA), Sigma AF 20mm 1.8 EX DG Asp RF für Nikon F schwarz (411944), Nikon AF-S 20mm 1.8G ED (JAA138DA), Z

Also usually Pentax lenses are close to Zeiss in price and optical quality, so 1,100€ or more are possible.
Produktvergleich Panasonic Lumix S PRO 50mm 1.4 (S-X50E), Sony FE 50mm 1.4 ZA SSM (SEL-50F14Z), Zeiss ZF.2 Milvus 50mm 1.4 für Nikon F schwarz (2096-556), Pentax HD DFA* 50mm 1.4 SDM AW schwarz (21260), Sony 50mm 1.4 ZA SSM schwarz (SAL-50F14Z), Sigm

Yes i think the same: it's a very sad thing the loss of aperture ring ...
I hope that they will not reduce the aperture to f2.8 ...

I don't expect the price of any film bodies to jump - there is a surplus of them, and the new lens would add very little to their utility,
I expect them to label the new lens as a "DFA" lens - almost any of us will realize it could be used on any Pentax camera, and I really don't see any gain from saying this is usable on "APS-C" cameras.
Well, there's no surplus of MZ-S I can tell you that.

I can only guess that the D FA 21 will be the first of a series of a new limited lens line, may one of three. Leaving the old FA Limited's as legacy lenses.

This SMC Pentax K 20mm f1.4 was never official, so no "reduce" of aperture. Since Limiteds are always less fast than the fastest primes, f2.8 or slower is to expect.

@angerdan,

Yes, i'm italian, I know very well Marco Cavina works and i'm an "old" (sic!) pentaxian, ... that i've posted is "an image of hope" 😊😉

I would still be happy if this new FA 21mm Limited were as fast as the FA 31mm Ltd ( and with an extraordinary soft manual aperture ring ! ... ).

Best regards from Italy!
Ben

I believe that it will be an 21/1.8 lens.

This is simply incorrect. How many sub-f/2.0 lenses has Pentax made in the wide angle range?

Because the answer is "the 31 Limited is the only one". Unless you mean "than the fastest primes from other manufacturers", which is... kinda moot.
