This isn't a "game".
They are under no obligation to tell us what their plans are.
They produce cameras and we decide whether or not to give them money in exchange for one.
We can always decide to purchase from another brand if Pentax has nothing we 'need'.
I myself switched to Canon for twenty years when I liked their quiet EF/usm system - then switched back to Pentax when I found Canon's Rebels to lack reliability.

Not true.
Smart phones have replaced P&S cameras.
Adjustable cameras are a different story, regardless of the size.
Even a small-sensored camera like the "Q" is a completely different animal.
The market for P&S cameras hasn’t entirely vanished, although it is much reduced. No phone camera can do what a superzoom bridge camera can do, for instance, try as they might with digital “zoom” on their smartphones. In other respects, of course, smartphone image processing has outstripped that of stand-alone cameras by a wide margin, and convenience often trumps quality.

In the matter of competing with APS-C cameras, I think that much of that segment has had the ground cut out from under at least the “entry-level” sub-segment, by the increasing competence of smartphones. I base that on what I see at everything from school performances to tourist attractions, compared with even five years ago.

Where do I preorder this thing? I'll buy anything that's shiny silver and made by PentaX!

The amount of bodies that Fuji releases is fascinating as well, they average about 4 cameras a year.
I suspect the lack of a mirror and pentaprism make the process a lot easier.

School performances and tourist attractions have always been prime markets for P&S - because the users are willing to depend on the camera's guesses for 'exposure triangle'.
In the days of film, much of that market was actually "FF" - now it is mostly "APS-C", mainly because of cost.
Smart phones do not threaten those uses which depend upon making 'educated' adjustments to the camera - in other words, the the "not P&S" segment(s).

A lot of entry-level APS-C DSLRs were used for exactly this, at least in my experience. They were likely permanently on the Auto settings, too. It seems that experiences differ from place to place.

That's exactly what I said, yes.

I was aiming more at how half their models are essentially the same camera with different shapes.

But yes, mirrorless cameras are by definition easier to design.

I'd look more at the list of recent lenses since the K-1's release APS-C: DA *11-20, HD DA 10-17. Full Frame: DFA *70-200, DFA 15-30, DFA 70-210, DFA 35, HD versions of the FA limiteds, DFA *50 and DFA *85. I'm doing this off the top of my head, but I think it is pretty accurate.

And the HD 10-17 was reworked so it would be a circular fisheye... on full frame

Did they actually rework it? I thought they just made the hood removable and changed the coatings.
