I love the wait and suspense factor that Pentax give us with every new lens. A couple of observations, those saying that the amount of releases is too slow are not getting the point, Pentax are now guiding us into running dual systems, APSC and FF and that costs us money. Look at poor Sandy, he has to buy a K3 iii, DA*16-50PLM and the 21 Limited this year and that's on top of the DFA*85 last year
, the point I'm making is that Pentax are dropping the new stuff in manageable amounts - I'll be getting the K-3 iii and my 5yo daughter has my original K-3 (I could sell it on and get a couple of hundred for it but the enjoyment she gets out having her own camera completely outweighs that).
Pentax have also delayed stuff for last minute tweaks (DFA*70-200) and I cannot find anything optically in the DFA*'s that has me looking or feeling sorry for myself and that another brand has something better, its a complete fallacy if you think otherwise. I have already stated that I think the DA*16-50 might be the sleeper of the 3 taking into account flexibility, size, speed and just the overall ability to allow you frame a shot.
The 21, I think Pentax are being extra careful with this one, as the FA Limited's are a Halo brand within the Pentax ecosystem and the rendering that this lens has to deliver is weighted towards an excellent sensory experience over the possibly easier numerical excellence that a DFA* is expected to deliver, all the while having a smallish form factor, built in motor, resolution and silken smooth transition to OOF. This is not a Fuji or Sony lens that has to be corrected in camera but a lens that will salute its peers from Leica & Zeiss. Make no mistake, Pentax has left the mass market and is now rejoining its erstwhile competition. Leica has the dentists, Pentax wants the doctors
