$1000 isn't realistic, I wonder if $1500 would be... The Tamron had a MSRP of $1400, right? And a Pentax version would be at least slightly more expensive.

Looks like you’re right on the $1400 MSRP. $1500 or $1600 could be realistic then. The price differential between the Tamron and Pentax versions of the 70-210 and the 15-30 is not consistent enough to predict.

It's actually 100€ more expensive than the 150-450 over here...
I was off a little, it's $1800 here in the States, and the 150-450 is $2000. Probably because the only way I'd ever get either is used, and I could get them for $1500, perhaps a bit less.

Still, I'd like a 150-600 at $1000 or so, even if it's not * quality...

The Tamron is about $1200 on B&H and Amazon. So maybe $1300-1400 for a Pentax model? Although the 70-210 is 50% more for the Pentax version, so that would be $1800 and... yikes.

All I know is that the K-3 III is going to be more than double what I've ever spent on any photography gear, so it'll probably be a long while before I spend $1000+ on anything like that.

no, no, no, no, no. No talk of consumer zooms please. Pentax is iterating those way to much. We still need fast primes for both apsc and ff. They are allowed to do the DA*1650 but that's it

I am currently selling my K-1, 15-30mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm, Sigma 85mm and 180mm macro to buy a Sony body and the 200-600mm purely because Pentax doesn't have a ** - 600mm lens. I am keeping my 150-450mm, 1.4x and a couple of crop lenses for later in the year when I may buy the K-3 III but IMO without a longer prosumer zoom lens Pentax won't attract the wildlife shooters no matter how good the AF is.

How well does the DA560 work with the DA1.4x? I wonder how that would translate to a full frame 1.4x...

Outside of really fast telephoto, you could do much worse than the K3iii and the 11-28, 16-50, 150-450, 560, and the 1.4x. Throw in a few primes and/or the 55-300, and you have a beautiful system.

A K-3 III without a 55-300 PLM is like Fred Astaire without Ginger Rogers.

The DFA*70-200 f2.8 would be maybe Cyd Charisse? 😛

There is a full frame 55-ish to 300-ish lens on the roadmap now. I think that’s a good place to focus, especially if it can come close to the DA55-300 PLM focusing speed.
Interestingly, it's the same distance on the cropped and FF list. Might be one zoom covering both sensor sizes. An update of the 60-250mm which actually covers FF although it's a DA*?
But it doesn't quite reach 60 on that table. That lens has a good reputation, I read (as I never owned it), but the AF came in for criticism.

If it covers full frame, APS-C won’t be an issue, but I can’t see it being a 60-250 replacement since it isn’t listed as a * lens, and we have the DFA70-210 f4 as a “not-*” full frame lens.

And I can’t imagine Pentax labeling a DA* lens as a DFA, but I could imagine them selling a DA* lens that happened to work fine (though not to * standards) on full frame.

I think the zoom on the roadmap is meant to complement the DFA28-105 on full frame, but it would obviously work fine on an APS-C. I also expect a variable aperture. So not a limited or * lens, just a “regular” lens, though what that means has shifted a bit in the past 30 years or so

Dunno. If they want to sell/advert K-3/3 as wildelife/action camera then lens setup able to get the best out of new AF is required. And after 16-50 it will lack only something longer the 300. Of course there is DA* 560 but it is the "end of the road" for DA currently, with nothing between it and 55-300 PLM.

Though who knows what people at Ricoh are thinking and what will make next. Filling up FF lenses with modern updates may be a preparation for K-1 Mk III.

As far as I can see, the lens is coloured red: neither yellow for a star lens, nor green for a non-star lens. Hence it has either not been decided or it is a ‘detail’ not yet disclosed.
As we already have 70-200 and 70-210, another one in this range would be overkill. 70-250? Too similar imo although that's what it looks like, admittedly. Is that what you think of as a companion to the 28-105 FF?

... and combined with the DA TC 1.4x it‘s FOV is approximately that of a f8 / 950mm lens using an FF camera.

As long as Pentax is manufacturing 'consumer-level' bodies such as the K-70, they need to support them with 'consumer-level' lenses.
In fact, as long as they are using solenoid-based aperture control in them, they need to think in terms of KAF4 - but certainly not something as costly as the DA* 16-50mm.
Yes, I know you want a complete set of "star" prime lenses, but other people have wants also - we can share.
The 55-300mm PLM is fine for telephoto - but they also need to think in terms of a 'standard' lens - perhaps a DA 18-55mm in KAF4.
