HD Pentax DA * 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM AW is the second one.

WOW. This is a nice update to the much SDM riddled 16-50. And redesigned optical construction.
I only wish they will get to the DA* 50-135 soon.

Once they complete the line refresh (motor upgrade) for 16-50/2.8, 50-135/2.8, 200/2.8 and 300/4, we will have a great apsc lineup!
Just do it faster Pentax!

People can complain about thin FF lens catalog but they’re clearly way ahead in APSc. Pentax has been all about small, highly competent cameras and lenses for decades. Nice to see they aren’t abandoning that ethic, and Also adding to the FF Limited lens identity. I want it all, but being realistic I’ll get the 21 first day and the 85 at some point. I’ll wait for the FF version of the new APSc body.

Agree a 100%.
With FA* 24 and 85 in my bag. I don't need either. But I know I will spend on that D-FA*85. Will put my FA* on sale once I get the D-FA*. D-FA 21 is equally tempting. but will be next in line for the upgrade for me.

This would make the perfect holiday kit paired with my 55-300. Hopefully the stock market will have recovered by the time these hit the market!

The DFA 21 Limited is exactly the lens for me. I can do without the others, but happy to see them in the lineup.

Good that they will use their PLM technology, should be a cracking lens.

I'm still very happy about my first batch DA*50-135/2.8, but the DA*16-50/2.8 is another thing. Both have suffered a lot by my abuse, and have been serviced twice, and finally had their SDM hacked to become screw drive AF lenses. But on top of that, the 16-50's optics have somewhat degraded by being bumped into various hard objects during my hikes. Either that, or the newer high res cameras have exposed some of its shortcomings... probably a bit of both...

Anyway, the new DA*16-50/2.8 is high on my list now... The quality of the DA*11-18/2.8 gives me high expectations for this one as well...

Wim
