Indeed, and when asked whether it would be possible to release the lens at the same time as the APS-C flagship end 2020, the reply was a hesitating "we are trying our best to have it sooner"...

so this is something in the " works "

and may be years in the future
Yes, but the mockup looks pretty... definite already. If they have the PLM in the name, the focus group is certainly decided on. I hope they can keep the early 2021 date.

I always liked the look of the 16-50, so this new version is verrrrrry interesting.

The DA*16-50 had more optical weaknesses than than the DA*50-135, so it certainly makes sense that it was the first to be refreshed. The re-design and PLM AF motor are really promising!

I hope the others eventually follow, but the DA*50-135 and DA*60-250 are already optically superb despite their Sudden Death Motor AF.

And @BigMackCam - what rock have you been living under?

I have no interest in the DA16-50, but a refresh was overdue and it's the most needed update in APS-C land. The optical and mechanical performance was simply not up to star level.

That's the polite Japanese way of avoiding to say no.

82mm will match the DA* 11-18.

Maybe because it's a PLM?
It might also have focus by wire...
