No deep discounts on the D FA* 50 and 85, so that pattern will probably continue on any future * lens releases.
Yep, what you can do is from time to time temporarily appeal to the next tier down by doing a Special with a distributor like Adorama, or do the Black Friday thing.

There are always 2 or 3 sales per year in Australia where you can get 15% off. I usually wait for those.

Off topic but still: why has the entire thread dedicated to the HD Pentax-D FA 85mm f/1.4 ED SDM AW simply disappeared?
Do you mean this one currently on page 2 of the listing?

Do they consider DA* equals quality-wise to DFA*, I dunno.
The only recent and as such comparable DA* is the DA*11-18/2.8, which is excellent and unquestionably worthy of the star designation. It is many leagues ahead of the original DA*16-50/2.8, both in terms of IQ and build quality. I only hope they keep the same 77mm filter size...

Yes, this one. The message of mine you just answered dates back to the 25th of May at 13:02 CEST (7:02 EST). The thread disappeared during a few hours that day- you'll see a post hiatus between 10:19 and 18:51 (CEST; your local time may differ).

I think this DA * lens should be good -- has weather sealing, PLM drive, and f2.8 fixed aperture. New lenses are always more expensive and I would imagine that eventually the price would drop to around 1000 dollars.

I am more of a full frame shooter at this point and my DA *16-50 gets me by. I would say that if I mostly shot APS-C I would strongly consider this lens, assuming that it is better optically than the current version.

This what I hope too.
Won't buy it but good for the brand.

I am pleasantly surprised. I didn't follow the news for a long time. I also think this is very good for the brand. As I understand it, many did not like the old version immediately after the start of sales and required replacement. Its price on the secondary market in the place where I live is 150-200 euros, that says something.

WOW. This is a nice update to the much SDM riddled 16-50. And redesigned optical construction.
I only wish they will get to the DA* 50-135 soon.
I hope they update the 60-250mm

With the 70-210mm f/4 now available, I very much doubt that.

Particularly with the fairly long time a 70-200mm f/4 tele zoom was in the roadmap, to then suddenly get changed to 70-210, if I remember right... if they wanted/could make a refresh of the 60-250 they probably would have done so already. Right now they have other priorities.

Honestly, I definitely think getting the 16-50 PLM revamp out will be a big win for the company alongside the new camera. There are a lot of great lenses already available on the longer end, and with the 11-18 out, they only had one other (main...) segment to improve on.
