It's a development announcement, not a full-fledged announcement.

HD PENTAX-DA16-50mmF2.8ED PLM AW (tentative name), high-performance Star-series lens for PENTAX APS-C-format digital SLR cameras | RICOH IMAGING

高性能スターレンズ「HD PENTAX-DA16-50mmF2.8ED PLM AW(仮称)」の開発について|RICOH IMAGING

As for the minimum focusing distance, the English version says 0.4m and the Japanese version, 0.3m.

At least it's progress in the right direction

I wonder what the weight of this lens will be. It does not look small.

The original DA*16-50 was a substantial lump. I can't imagine this more modern (and presumably better corrected) version being any less so.

Recommended as a standard lens for the K-3III! Yes, it does look sizeable, but the ability to track focus on video will be appealing, as I’m assuming it will also do for the 55-300PLM. Buyers may well choose between this new 16-50 PLM and the 20-40 DC for a standard zoom, depending how much compactness and lightness they want.

Looks big. I wonder if they will add it as kit lens for K-3/3, at least preordered ones. Or will we get standard 18-55?

I'm confused the press release images show only one image? We've already seen lots of photos from many angles of this lens. The video from last years CP+ shows the lens in hand so size has been known for a year.

Well, it says the following:

"PENTAX plans to make a public announcement of this product shortly. Please look forward to the announcement and market launch."

Scheduled for 2021. No mention of "or later"

Everyone knows that "or later" is a TM sign of Pentax, so they do not bother to wast time typing it :P

Maybe they used Imperial meters

Thanks for this. It doesn't look much bigger, if at all, than the old 16-50. Though it could be a 82mm filter like the DA* 11-18

The only thing annoying me with this lens (but it won't bother me since I won't buy it, my K5 would not run it properly anyway) is the absence of any distance scale on the barrel.
AFAIK this is because of PLM. I understand that but still a pity for a DA* lens (I would not care a dime of it was a consumer class lens).

Won't bother me at night the slightest though.

I still think they could have put an LCD screen on it. Still, I seldom look at the distance scale, so it wouldn't be a big deal...
