Even the D FA 28-105 works very well against the sun. The 55-300 PLM also does a very good job. Of course, those are never at f/1.4, but they also have a lot of glass inside which would normally make flare worse.

noooooooooo...don't change the optics. It's perfect. Just stick a beefy Canon style ring drive on it and call it good

Yes the 50-135mm just needs a new drive motor and the updated coatings. Optically it is so nice.

Just checked the old video from cp+ 2020 and it's at 18mm in every single image also from that event so no conclusions can be drawn from images of the lens so far. Perhaps that tight lock at 18 is an indication that it does extend. The fuji equivalent does I don't know about other brands.

It would be quite unlikely yo-yo have internal zoom for 16-50. Even smaller format oly 12-40/2.8 is not internal zoom. 24-70/2.8 is not and definitely old 16-50 is not. Extending might be reduced, but it is quite unrealistic. I had tokina 28-70/2.8 it was ‘internal’ it was also massive because of that.

The above lens looks quite huge which is the only reason I even considered it. Pentax seems to aim to control zoom and focus movement rather than completely remove it in quite a few lenses. DA11-18 for instance does extend a tiny bit when focusing i think? That's probably the best way to manage it, though not a zoom person I don't mind some movement but huge telescoping extension just feels even more crap than zooms already do. An awful lot of lenses do telescope even extremely expensive ones.

I kind of understand what you mean and many were worried about ’wobble’ with original 16-50. I’v actually Gallen on my lens&K-1 combo because I slipped when I walked on mud. It was not big fall, but camera and 16-50 did leave print to mud(bottom part). I was worried. Other than my camera and 16-50 getting muddy, there was nothing. I rinsed them with water to get rid of mud and everything is still working. Would have slipped on rock, it would be different thing.

I think that what and how things feel/look, should not affect on how it actually does work. We will see thou. It could be that it does not extend when zooming. I doubt it thou. And IMO it should not be any kind of problem either.

I'm very excited about that lens. Hope they release it soon.

Also, considering the testimony in thew presentation, that new DA*16-50 seems a very high performance lens in every professional aspect. The new PLM AF appears to be really fast and acurate. And the optical redesign looks like it'll deliver some gorgeous pics.

Nope the 11-18 does not extend even one tiny bit, just checked mine and I couldn't find any external extension in any part of the focus range.

Ah ok, must have mixed it up with something else. From my fuzzy memory the front element moves a few mm inside the barrel.

aha, mid post i realised perhaps I got the info from the pentaxforums review and yes i found a handy gif courtesy of pentaxforums itself. So "external extension" maybe not but it's not fixed either. Which was precisely my point.
