That's probably the best way to manage it, though not a zoom person I don't mind some movement but huge telescoping extension just feels even more crap than zooms already do. An awful lot of lenses do telescope even extremely expensive ones.
I kind of understand what you mean and many were worried about ’wobble’ with original 16-50. I’v actually Gallen on my lens&K-1 combo because I slipped when I walked on mud. It was not big fall, but camera and 16-50 did leave print to mud(bottom part). I was worried. Other than my camera and 16-50 getting muddy, there was nothing. I rinsed them with water to get rid of mud and everything is still working. Would have slipped on rock, it would be different thing.
I think that what and how things feel/look, should not affect on how it actually does work. We will see thou. It could be that it does not extend when zooming. I doubt it thou. And IMO it should not be any kind of problem either.
