Having the lens come after has the advantage of dragging out the media exposure over a longer time. Downside is that lens + camera might awe the reviewers a bit more.
You mean that the downside of not having the lens released simultaneously makes it a slightly less impressive machine? I would agree (on the assumption that the new 16-50mm is as impressive as star lenses released in recent years, which seems reasonable).

Yes that was the point. The 15-50 is in that zone where Pentax has iterated endlessly and for sure know how to make a lens. The new one looks huge so probably great optics and plm for focussing. I don't think any existing lens can match this.

If this DA* is on par with the recent Star-grade lenses that Pentax has been putting out, it will be one of the best APS-C lenses in the market.

I guess Adam will need to have another "best lens" contest next year - or separate "APS-C" from "FF".

DA*1118 on the left DA*1650 on the right. Just a screen grab from a video. That lens lineup image is probably available at higher res somewhere.

The K-3iii is an impressive machine with any recent lens mounted on it.
Having the DA* 16-50 mounted would make the kit more expensive.

But what a kit that would be. The only real thing holding it back may have been not releasing a silver version to go with the silver K3iii premium kit.

Based on my experiments - when I put a silver FA 28-105mm on my silver KP {I was deciding whether to get a silver 20-40mm ltd} - a silver K-3iii might look better with a black lens {at least to my eyes}.

Agree, I have a silver KP and I think black lenses look better than silver ones on that camera.

As Mbaez and reh321 wrote, perhaps black lenses would suit the silver cameras better.

I can see why, because the cameras are not all silver, but rather an alternation of black and silver. And since the lens mount is in the silver part, it would be logical for the lens colour to alternate from that, thus it should be black.

I'm thinking the size of the lens may make a difference too? For larger lenses silver may make more sense, because these would also alternate between silver hard body parts and black rubber rings for zoom and focus, thus better fitting in with the scheme. Smaller lenses could be nicer all black?

In the end it all comes down to personal taste...

Folks, the whole idea of being a pentaxian is to enjoy the SLR experience - you look through the lens, not at it!

Next thing you know you'll be suggesting that you actually take photos with your camera gear. That's exactly the sort of talk we don't need round here...

Indeed, we're rather looking at a lens that isn't even there yet...

We’re in that uncomfortable time when we can look neither through it nor at it
