I'm hoping it's reasonable too. The current 16-50 goes for $1069.95 CAD...

This one probably will go down in price (somewhat)

The SDM on this guy really has me put off. It would have to be an incredible deal for me to pay for an old 16-50 instead of the 16-50 PLM once it's released :P

Yes, I'd probably wait on the new one. I own the old version and since I'm mostly a full frame shooter now, it is adequate, but it does have some weaknesses optically, flares quite a bit, and then of course there is the SDM (slow and prone to failure). Even if you could get an old version for half price of a new one, it's probably worth it in the long run to go with version II.

Yeah I think if you show me something that's seriously superior I'd rather have 1-2 lenses that blow my mind than 10 that I'm only somewhat happy with.

Agreed although it remains to be seen (I don't think it has been stated yet) if this is a KAF3 or KAF4 lens.
IMO this should be KAF4. In this case, your K5 will be annoyed.

I understand this completely, but I'm hoping for an improvement in IQ much more. After all, I always managed to manually focus my DA*16-50 every time the SDM played up, and conversion to screw drive worked fine when SDM finally gave up entirely. As such focus was never a blocking issue for me and I always got the shot. Though from an IQ PoV the DA*16-50 always left me slightly short of expectations...

With this one I'm hoping to find this one totally the opposite. Hopefully the product blows me away at times.

Who knows. Going from the last DA* release (the DA*11-18) it seems justified to have high expectations. Time will tell, but I'll already be happy to see improvements compared to my old DA*16-50's original performance when new.

Yep, IMO this new lens will be completely different and quite better. Not perfect but a lot more up to its *

I'm looking forward to the DA * pinhole lens, retailing for 650 dollars.
Here's my one attempt at a pinhole photo (I believe I laid down in the cornfield for a quarter of an hour or so)

That's actually pretty cool. When do adults take the time to look at clouds to see shapes?

Do we know when the 16-50 PLM is supposed to be available? The press release only included an awkwardly worded statement saying it will be released in 2021, but it looked like they meant to include additional info at least about which quarter of 2021 it would be released.
