Originally posted by jersey Yes, lots of hard choices with this lens. I'm limiting my lenses heavily, selling what I do not need and 16-50 and 55-300 would be sort of optimum currently for me first for trains second for planes, with 35 macro as "one trick pony" for flower photography if I am able to get it in silver. But then 20-40 is like 2000 PLN (so like 500$) cheaper then new lens and covers what I need including WR, it's drawback is lack of UWA which I sometimes use for close shots of trains and in museums and slower AF.
Argh, I hate such decisions.

If you want a bit of close up shots and comaprisions new/old then check this.

And ignore EN translations. There is some nazi tech in the lens according to it. Some Fuhrer technology
Thanks, that pretty detailed review was well worth watching, all 24 minutes of it (though not all the auto-translation should be taken literally!).
The improvement in CA in the examples shown is astonishing - from "ouch" down to effectively zero. Edge sharpness at f2.8 shows a big improvement too and the bokeh looks wonderful. Not to mention faster focussing and the other improvements too. The negatives are of course its greater length, weight and (considerably!) greater price - but Ricoh can't defy the laws of physics or economics.
And now the K-3iii silver is in stock at SRS, I have some serious economic decisions of my own to make in the next few weeks ... £3,300 worth of decisions!
