A revised motor (sensor, processing engine, AF system) would indeed be a really great start.

But suggesting the K-3 Mark II is a Model-T Ford is too ridiculous to be worth a serious rebuttal.

[/LIST]The thing about a tiltable screen is: You are not forced to use it. Just don't tilt it if you enjoy digging a hole before shooting macros of ants at eye-level with the viewfinder, all fine. If you don't have one, you can't use one... I think that is a more severe flaw than having one you don't use, right? And it's one of the big things that made digital photography, one of the things optical cameras just can't. My current APS-C has one. My next APS-C will have one.
I agree, I mean... I'd rather have features and not use them than not have them. On a job recently I found I needed focus peaking, like literally needed it, the shot I was trying for was not possible without it. It was probably the first time I used that feature in such a brutal necessity way (I won't bore you with details pertaining to the shot). But having said that, I think having duplicated camera features across all the cameras can have drawbacks, especially if that means some other features are being omitted because simply 'can't cram anymore in'. Do we need pixelshift on every model? Astro? Focus Peaking? Tilting screen? Heck I'd love a manual focus only K-1 with no bells and whistles

I can only guess that by omitting a feature its because it is necessary to accomodate other new features, and in this regard I think that's probably wise. If tilting screens are really important then the KP and K-1ii are still out there to buy with that feature. I'm thinking the screen is touch screen and the camera centered more around the OVF (possibly EVF) experience (more pew pew pew and action/wildlife geared) that this was enough for them to contend with for now, a tilting screen was too much.

I also think they are intending the K-new to being the perfect accompaniment camera to the K-1ii (and eventually K-1iii (or K-2), one is better at landscape, the other for wildlife/action. If this is true I think it will be a wise move, better than a 'same ol same' with mild improvements over the K3 or KP. The fact I can't see a gps button in the design, no sign of pop up flash, no tilt screen... this actually gets me really excited!

Why would anyone consider that to be important?

The answer is YES by the way

The problem occurs when concentrating on what the camera isn't/doesn't do/ doesn't have, without paying any thoughts to what it is/what it does/what it has.

Of course it won't be "perfect". Of course it won't align perfectly with our needs and preferences.
But, is this everything one could say about it? That it OMG doesn't have an articulated screen?
After that there is the debate of, it is too expensive, for what it is. But if one shoots all tge time waistlevel with flippy screen, then a good camera would be camera with flippy screen and would it need to be one with mirrorbox at all then? This camera has been designed with that thing in mind that it brings you the joy of lifting it up to your ete and having a bright nice OVF, would that 50-30% of ’my’ using that flippy be waisted for that. As they said, All of pentax products should have their own personality. There are several options now a days. Go and get the one, which suites your style the best? I have similar feeling as bruce, that this camera will be most action oriented camera so far by Pentax. Still it is Pentax. And it is for the guys and gals who love to have that OVF. Who knows what else they have under the’hood’. Touchcreen for sure. With that joystick.

At this point, with regard to the tiltable screen, it is what it is. I don't think there is anyone here who would actually want Pentax to put the camera's release off for a year in order to install and test a flippy screen. Except those who aren't really interested in the camera because they are shooting with other brands at this point.

We can speculate as to why they choose not to put a tiltable/flippable screen on the camera, but they didn't. At the same time, I do think that this camera is going to have the best specs and performance of any Pentax APS-C camera to date. Top end image quality, faster operation, nicer viewfinder -- obviously for a high price. Honestly, I think the price is going to be the biggest reason that many don't buy this camera. Not the rear LCD.

No articulating screen. Sigh. Why cripple the usability of a "flagship" in such a capricious way? It baffles me that a feature that many photographers need, me too, is absent for no good reason.
Couldn't agree more! I have the K-70 with the articulated screen and would not consider upgrading to this new camera without it!

Full agreement. Considering the fact, that all new technology developed for this camera in this body will be available to a new generation of different bodies without the long development run. This might be the speed/action/wildlife body. I would appreciate a new K-P now with GPS and astrotracer with sealing and flipscreen for travel, landscape, macro and astro work in APS-C.

But you would upgrade if it had one? This is a serious jump, at least 100 to 150% higher price than your camera today. Interesting.

To be fair, the KP is probably designated as the "street" and travel all-rounder, and for that fill flash is probably more important than GPS. Ricoh seems to have decided that they cannot maintain too many platforms at the same time, and landscape/macro/astro seems to be K-1 territory to them.

-Entry level is entry level, with APS-C format (lower cost, small "kit" lenses with good IQ for general photography). The K-70 packs a lot of features, it's enough camera for 99% of people who are starting out.

-Street/travel is served by the KP, with its compact high-quality body. Pop-up flash is more important for portraits of family/friends/street shots than a GPS, tilt screen makes it more all terrain and allows it to be more discreet as you can shoot from the waist.

-The K-1 is the field camera. I would argue that its name and features make it the intended successor to the K-3ii in terms of being the generalist camera that focuses on incredible IQ and outdoors-oriented features. However, it took a solid hit to the speed, which left a lot of action shooters orphaned for years (and the KP wasn't what they needed). Which leads us to...

-K-New is the "flagship" APS-C as it will have the best performance, but truly it will be, as you say, the speed/action/wildlife platform as opposed to the K-1 being the landscape camera and the KP being the street camera. The K-7/5/3 were generalists (the K-3 has a decent frame rate and buffer) but were focused more on being rugged field cameras with good IQ because there was no K-1. I doubt we'll see a huge IQ increase here (let's be serious - there aren't any APS-C sensors that would show a lot of improvement over the K-3 and if one wants monster IQ the K-1 is right there) but they can focus on making a true specialist speed demon. I hope it matches or even bests the D500/7Dii, although "just" getting within spitting distance of those two in AF/FPS/Buffer while having Pentax IQ/features/ergonomics and a monster OVF would be plenty for most people, I'm sure.
