I think that there were a quite firm rumor for 164(or something like that) focus points. Already couple months a go.

Has that theory ever been empirically tested?

I guess it depends on the version of the song.
"In the take one down and pass it around" version we have to know how many people are taking sips.

In the "If one of those bottle should happen to fall" version it won't get any easier to sing it.
