That was part of my point.

There is a significant difference in old ff lineup. It makes no sense playing this down. They sell/sold an awful lot more gear, had more products and crucially came out with ff glass during the whole period of the last 20 years.

The switch to milc puts all that glass in a different market. That space is very sparsely populated in pentax land.

This might be good for Pentax but could squeeze pentaxians.
I guess I see the FA limiteds, DFA 100 macro, FA 50, DFA 35 HD, and DFA 28-105 as all being reasonably priced and decent lenses in the current catalog. The FA lenses from past years can fill in gaps as well and are really nice lenses. You can get the FA * 80-200 for 700 dollars, which is very reasonable for a high quality lens. I bought an FA 135 f2.8 for 300-ish dollars last year and it is a very nice lens. Fast auto focus, sharp wide open. Acting as though lenses from the 90s aren't worth buying misses the point of keeping the mount the same.

I have two fa lenses 50 and 35 and they are fine for my usecase. Stopped down for architecture and more open for the family shots. But again the middle between screwdrive 90s lenses and absolute state of the art is missing (in primes).

It was just an observation. When it becomes a multi post discussion it always seem more negative than the initial post because one has to flesh out all the negative sides to explain oneself.

The problem is not a complete lack of lenses (worth buying or whatever), but that Pentax had a "time gap" when they didn't update their FAs.
Yes, you can get an old Canon with ring-type USM while for Pentax this type of motor is a recent addition. And tons of older optics designed for digital.

But, my D FA kit is almost complete, and my next lens will (most likely) be a Pentax D FA* 21mm, rather than - say - a Canon EF 20mm f/2.8 USM. And I might get the D FA* 85mm some day.

Anyway, this isn't a proper subject for a thread dedicated to the new, amazing lens Pentax just announced. There's nothing Ricoh Imaging could do to "fix" the past... but they're working on the future.

So if I’m right there will be HD Ltd 21 f/3.5 (or something) & DFA*24mm f/1.4? If it’s true... it’s great

Pff. It's in the centre and gives no indication of corner sharpness.

When I posted this in a Pentax Facebook group, someone said I had a vivid imagination.

Of course, they are a modern person, viewing everything re-rendered on a little phone.

For their benefit, I did a zoomed in screenshot of the right eye.

It's 'Throwback Thursday' today and this just so happened to be the image I chose to 'throw' up;

This was taken with the Samyang 85/1.4 at f1.6 I believe. There was a lot of CA mess in the ocean that even after a tidy up is still problematic. Not even going to mention how tricky nailing f1.6 on a target this far away was, I should imagine DFA 85 owners will be very happy to get vastly superior results both in execution as well as PP.

The best information I am getting from my local store is a late June delivery. I wish she could be a bit more specific, but so it goes. Ricoh is being rather tight lipped about it.

According to Ricoh the HD Pentax-D FA 85mm f/1.4 ED SDM AW will be available on the 26th of June. The HD Pentax-D FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW was available a couple of days before ETA in some countries.

You know, if they were smart they would use it creatively - let the assistant in the photo hold a big cut out unicorn or something (a Blade Runner reference, but it could be anything).

Now, I'm just counting the models blackheads.
