Firmware updates for K-3, K-1, and K-1 II for better compatibility with new DFA*85

Today Ricoh Imaging announced and made available firmware updates for its flagship bodies K-3, K-1, and K-1 II, mainly for "(O)ptimized performance when attaching new lens HD PENTAX-D FA*85mmF1.4ED SDM AW," as it says in the descriptions. The updates for the FF bodies also claim to offer "(I)mproved stability for general performance".

The version numbers of the updates are given as K-3 (1.41), K-1 (1.53), and K-1 II (1.05), respectively:

Already installed the firmware (Windows) for my K-3 and didn't encounter any issues.

It's weird that there was no firmware update for K3II since 2016. There were updates for K3 when 50 and now 85 are released.

That may just be because the K-3 II as is does not present any known issues with the DFA*85, nor with the earlier DFA*50? I doubt they would ignore the K-3 II while coming up with fixes for the K-3.

From another thread (yes, we spoke about it before ):

I for one have another explanation but it's still a guess: the NVRAM in the K-3 II might be almost full, therefore not allowing the addition of the lines of code optimising the camera's operation with the D FA 50mm f/1.4 and D FA 85mm f/1.4.

Wasn't aware of this, as I will readily admit. An interesting possibility, no doubt.

My Mac says it's unable to open file, although the bin file does look like it comes out of the zip file as another zip file, but that when clicked has the same result,.. nada. I've tried with formatted card in K-3 and the computer. I don't think I have had a problem updating previously. The Ricoh website doesn't seen t have it up yet. I guess I'll wait until that happens. I don't own the 50mm anyway, but anything additional might be good.

As the chances of me having the 2k required to buy that one lens are significantly less than zero, and there are no other benefits for my luvverly K3, I think I will pass. Thanks for the info

Well, sometimes windows seems to better work than mac, unless the bug is Ricoh's
K-1 and K-3 thoroughly and successfully updated.

Most probably the Mac is deceiving you. The .bin file should be copied to the SD card as-is.

I haven't had the sticky shutter problem on the K-1 since the last update, so maybe that was fixed. What I would really like Ricoh to do is to enable changing SR focal length with the third dial. It is really a pain when using manual zooms to dive into the menu each time or do a power cycle.
