US site has 1.21 as the latest update. I'll wait a bit longer and then try the Japanese site

---------- Post added 06-20-20 at 03:13 PM ----------

The error says: "Unable to expand 'fwdc220.bin'. It is an unsupported file." When the original download is clicked this file appears: 'K-3_v141 1.23.39 PM.zip'], with the same error stated when clicked.

Sorry to bother you folks. I'm getting to the age point, that when my tech balks, I get a a queezy gut feeling. PF is SO much more accessible than Ricoh or Apple.

Hm. Just tried the oddly tacky-looking (sorry, maybe that's just me) US site, and it seems to link to the international Japanese site for firmware updates, where sure enough v1.41 appears for the K-3: Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING

The ZIP file provided is supposed to work on both Windows and Mac. Would love to be of further assistance with the extraction, but I'm running a Windows 10 machine.

Thank you to the Pentax Forums Team for sending me the link to the updated US Ricoh. I tried again with same result. Now have done these ever since K-10 and didn't have any problems. My version is 1.40 which indicates it's been successful in the past.

None of the BOLD items show on my display:

"Updates the camera firmware" appears in the LCD monitor.
Ver: 1.00/1.01/1.02/1.03 /1.10 / 1.11/1.20/1.21/1.30/1.40 →1.41 will be displayed.
Press the four-way controller to select "Start" and press the "OK" button.
"NOW LOADING" appears on the LCD monitor and updating starts.
Please do not under any circumstances switch off the power before the update is completed.
When update is completed, the "COMPLETE" will be displayed at the left bottom of the LCD monitor, then turn the camera off.

Thanks, Rick (feeling like a senile old man)

You need to download a compressed file/archive named k3_v141.zip (and just that) and then extract from it the firmware file named fwdc220b.bin. Don't try to 'expand' this fwdc220b.bin file, just copy it to the root directory of a formatted SD card. Then follow the 'Updating Procedure', steps 2 to 9.

Latest K-3 Firmware Update : Software Downloads | RICOH IMAGING

If you experience problems in extracting fwdc220b.bin from k3_v141.zip with you Mac, I would suggest your downloading and installing Stuffit Expander:

Stuffit

StuffIt Expander 16 on the Mac App Store

"No dice!" What you pointed out is what I have done, both using the computer "Download" file and then opening the bin file and copying it to the to the K-3 DCIM file in the "finder." (file tree on iMac). I have also tried to download to my SD card in the Mac's card slot and then transferring the card from the computer into the camera and turning it on while holding down the Menu button. There seems to be no way to go directly from Ricoh webpage to K-3; just to the computer. I'll just have to find a Mac person rather than bother you "guys" anymore. Thanks a whole bunch anyway, Mistral et. al

PS: looking at Stuffit made me not want to add more on top of the mess I already have. Times like this and really kick myself for switching from PC to Mac.

Don't open the .bin file, just copy it to the SD card. Don't copy it to any folder on the SD card, DCIM or otherwise, copy it to the root of the SD card (the highest level in the file tree).

BINGO! Thanks. Obviously my rudimentary computer terminology/skills are lacking. Thank you!

It was the DCIM deal

I have never updated my firmware for the K3. If I update to this latest one, do I need to go back and install previous updates or does this one do it all?
