Crikey, that is a long time and this is their whole game too. That puts the efforts of Cannon and Nikon in perspective too.

Sony and Sigma have a form of symbiotic existence for now at least.
Same as Sony and Tamron I guess - several Tammys are coming out in (so far, at least) E mount.

... and one more is rumoured (Nokishita Camera being the source and providing pictures, therefore this is solid) to be announced soon: Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD, an APS-C trans-standard lens with in-lens stabilisation.

Oh wow, Tamron is really going for very interesting lenses lately. Honestly, if I were to *shudder* shoot Sony their f/2.8 zooms would be my first choice.

Also, I do not think that Canon and Nikon are licensing their specs for the RF and Z mounts, respectively. Sigma is working with mounts where the engineering workload is comparatively easy.

Canon and Nikon didn't license the protocols of the EF and F mounts either, which didn't prevent Sigma from developing EF and F mount lenses (retro-engineering). The addressable market was big enough, therefore the game was worth the candle. This isn't the case for the RF and Z mounts yet.

Exactly no but, considering that:
  1. Between the first mock-up being pictured and/or showcased and the commercial product being available, it took:
    -
    • 513 days (almost 17 months) for the HD Pentax-D FA 50mm f/1.4 SDM AW
    • 483 days (almost 16 months) for the HD Pentax-DA 11-18mm f/2.8 ED DC AW and
    • 486 days (almost 16 months) for the HD Pentax-D FA 85mm f/1.4 ED SDM AW
    -
  2. No mock-up of the Large Aperture Wide Angle Single Focus Lens has been shown yet
    -
  3. The first opportunity to showcase such mock-up would be CP+ 2021 at the end of February
I would say at least 16 months from the end of February 2021, i.e. late July 2022 at the earliest.

god.... must live long enough to reach that point :/

Being only 44, you should succeed, even though your country is bordered by such peaceful and serene neighbours as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkey.

You know what? Ask somebody to offer it to you as a present for your 46th birthday!

What new lens to expect with K3iii?
I still think such a fast camera needs a fast 300/400/600 lens to go with. Such lens will not be part of the roadmap since it will replace other glass. The DFA*70–200 will be a nice match, a decent TC also for FF would help.
Large aperture glass? Probably not. High-end glass to replace DA*200/300? Probably not, 5he lens will feel pricy. New features like fresnel optics? Calm down, not for Pentax. Nothing new at all? Boring.

We've got the 150-450 which should be a good performer already. How many people are willing to pay 6-10k for a fast super tele like the Nikon 200-400/4, or 12k for the 400/2.8 options around?

Personally (but I don't shoot a lot of telephoto and I don't do birds so take it with a heaping spoon of salt) I'd say that a good option would be to go for relatively lightweight tele primes with more... reasonable apertures. Something like a lightweight, fast-focusing 400/5.0 lens or so for a -relatively- reasonable price? Embrace the hiker's needs of balancing portability with optical performance.

Hopefully followed by the 50-135/2.8, but considering the typical announcement-to-delivery timeframe of Pentax products I'm really banking on surprises here .

At least, that would have two out of three in the trinity covered by sometime next year...

The DA* 11-18 covers the premium wide-angle zoom end of things. Some kind of update to the 50-135, at least with an updated focusing motor if not optical improvements as well, would be nice.
