Rolls Royce was bought by BMW. I wonder if roller owners argue about whether their brand really exists! Companies change hands and you have to just hope the new owners care about your brand as much as you do. For me, and, somewhat strangely, much of the media, the videos were hugely reassuring. Before, we all speculated as to the future direction! Now we know Pentax is going to be a camera with its own identity ( it already was (KP) but now its official) and that makes me very happy indeed.

Rolls was originally bought by Volkswagen, but they only got the name for a few years, so they ended up selling the part they got to BMW for pennies on the Pound for what they paid... BMW made out really well, and VW got to keep Bentley

I thought it was VW but when I fact checked before my post, BMW came up. BMW are rather good at this, snaffling Mini then dumping Rover! The rascals! Anyway, we are digressing! Pentax vision, yaaaaay

Guys, the thread is taking a pedantic turn. Not one of us has a verified copy of the Hoya/Ricoh agreement, and it wouldn't matter anyway would it? I'd love to get back to the topic, Pentax letting us all clearly know their dedication to SLR rather than mirrorless.

Personally I found the video to be very reassuring, very positive.
I so agree with that. None of this stuff really matters. I feel good that whoever owns or leased Pentax has a vision that they seem very proud of. It really shows the insecurity as a group when people argue over stuff that has no bearing or cannot be proven one way or another. Outsiders know this though, and they come here just for the purpose of riling us up for their quick laughs. We really should not lend ourselves to that sort of thing.

We could have a raging, 8 page argument between now and July 22nd about whether or not self-moderating is a good thing. Personally, I try to moderate myself before I click on "Post," but I still make plenty of corrections after the fact; mostly for grammar, but sometimes to reduce the temperature of what I have written. Deleting ones own posts is a different animal, which will indubitably offend those who yearn for everything to be etched in stone, but as long as it doesn't confuse anyone reading the responses to deleted posts, it should be considered as a case of "no harm, no foul." IMHO, YMMV, IANAL, of course.

Oh, I see. We must be insecure because we're Others, not part of the Group. And our Wrong Choice - which makes us Others - is completely Our Fault... a troll which come on Pentax forums? Our Fault, too.

Leica never really tried much with SLRs, the lenses are well, Leucas but their bodies have always been meh (mostly Minolta with a R mount).
Today Leica is the only camera manufacturer that produces Rangefinders, DSLR and mirrorless.

Leicas latest DSLR - S3 - was released a couple months ago.

It is a lot of money for sure. Yes. But consider when 645D first came out. I paid over 10K. I think at that time flag ship Pentax DLSR was K5 with a MRSP of around $800? So when Leica M shooters are spending $8,000 for a body, being able to get into MF at $19,000 is somewhat enticing for those folks. Still it is a lot of dough though.

OT, but everyone needs to pay attention to this

I have seen these people sometimes - not frequently, but often enough to pick up on the common thread. It's always someone who looks like they have a massive axe to grind: single focus hatred (that is the word, not mere disdain or anything, they tend to sound seething because of the mere existence of their target) without any show of a positive interest in any other aspect of the hobby (say, actually taking and sharing the joy of taking effin' photos).

If I had to put a name to the behaviour it would be something like "relentless contrarianism". As to the why, I don't know, and I frankly don't care.
There's a term for part of this: "The narcissism of small differences".

But that's only part of it. Social media is now an engine that is ballooning this sort of thing out of all proportion to its actual value or importance. And the type of divisions that are being fertilized are very similar to the ones we are seeing in the U.S. with our political discourse, and most likely in other countries as well (the UK and Brexit? Poland? Hungary? Brazil?). It's fertile ground for much worse mischief. I've become rather alarmed at this trend.

I'm not going to go all conspiracy theory that there are contingents of bad actors purposely doing all of this in every sector. But if you told me there were, I wouldn't be surprised.

Wow, man, you should really give people a trigger warning when you are about to say something like that. Especially for those of us in some countries....
