To me hitting the D500 level is a different level. I believe the K-new is in the D7500 level. An advanced enthusiast camera.
The KP is already better than the D500/D7500 in regards to a bunch of things: more resolution, IBIS, smaller (the D500 is bigger
than the K-1), has perspective correction, has pixel shift, has access to astrotracer (the K-new will most likely have GPS so this will be native), has access to more than 2 APS-C primes, etc.
The K-new will
smoke the D7500 and probably be better overall than the D500, it's just not all in the AF and action-related stuff... If the tracking has been improved a fair bit, frame rate is 9 fps instead of 10 and the buffer is 50-60 RAW files instead of the 200 (which admittedly is impressive) of the D500 then the camera will be already be THE APS-C offering.

Re. Flippy screens, maybe they feel the WiFi/mobile phone option supplants the need. I use my flip screen occasionally and it is nice to have, but deal breaker? For me, nah!
Pentax cameras already deactivate SR automatically when they detect they are on a tripod, though.
It's either for video or the wrote SR for giggles to keep us confounded

7DII is too old already (2014). D500 is 2016 year launched.
I'm looking forward to compare....
The key specs of D500
Articulated LCD Touch sensitive
Screen size 3.2″
Screen dots 2,359,000
Max shutter speed 1/8000 sec
USB 3.0
Viewfinder coverage 100%
Viewfinder magnification 1×
Continuous drive 10.0 fps
Video 4K (UHD) 30p/25p/24p, 1080/60p/50p/30p/25p/24p, 720/60p/50p
Battery Life (CIPA) 1240
Auto focus 153 point AF module with 99 cross-type points (-4EV for the center point)
Buffer depths - 200 lossless compressed 14-bit Raw
I want to know specs of K-new....very much. We can see now that no articulated LCD in K-new...But it has better OVF than D500.
As for me tilting screen is not problem, but it could help in various situations. Better to have than not to have.
Max shutter speed will be at least the same for sure, LCD will most likely be touch-sensitive since there's the sensor under the OVF. IQ will be better than D500 because the KP was already on par (or a touch better). The D500's IBIS, astrotracer, pixel shift and size are menu sanity all lacking slightly, though
The only question is whether the AF is in range (thus smoking the D500) or noticeably behind (thus the K-new being less undisputedly the best all terrain APS-C camera in the market
)
