The KP is lighter than the K3 mark II by 57 grams, OK . But let's not forget it has a smaller grip, a smaller battery, and its shell is not completely made of alloy, but incorporates fair share of plastic.

Isn't the shell made in exactly the same way as the K-1? Alloy except for the top plate.

I normally shoot with a k-5II and a k-3II with batter grips. I lug my system with a sigma 10-20, 18-135, 55-300 and 100 mm macro. I wouldn't want to do that with a FF equivalent.

I have a second bigger bag that holds 4 lenses. Probably about the same weight. It carries the FA* 200/4 macro, F*300/4.5, A400/5.6 & A* 600/5.6.

And another few bags for stuff that doesn't get out much, and a few boxes of the same sort of stuff and a display case of sorts full of dreck.

If an ounce or two of weight difference impacts a anyone's ability to enjoy photography I'd suggest you pursue a different hobby.

Weight makes a big difference when my wife asks me if I am up to another n mile walk down a trail.

But with several FF lenses and a grip it amounts to several pounds and a much larger bag to lug around. So, big difference.

Exactly. I was wondering lately how the top-plate of K-new could give any indication on antennas built in (Wifi, GNSS...). I did not see any seam just for the prism cover, but saw that K-1 also uses a polycarbonate top-plate already. Just like KP. K7-3 is different in this regard, but in practice no issues with that construction appear, and it feels very robust.

I have a Domke F-5XB that I use to carry a K-3ii, a 55-300PLM, 15, 21, and 40LTDs (or a 20-40mm LTD). That weighs something like 5-6 lbs and covers 15-300mm. For me 23 lbs is most of what you need on a weekend backcountry hiking trip.

Not the 2oz's from the camera which is all that was being discussed. He was right. Any recent Pentax APS-C is light and compact enough not to be burdensome, and I hate to have to add this disclaimer but there's always "that guy", except to the most frail.

But lenses and bags and filters and flashes and modifiers.... Oh My! That's why we all have our walkaround lens and method of carrying. Some here have no issue with several pounds of it while the most unhealthy or challenged among us might want to avoid standalone camera's altogether.

No way in hell I'm carrying 10 pounds of camera gear on any given trip, much less 20. Yesterday I did a short walk (about 6 km roundtrip but the altitude gain is ~250 m so you spend one km or so going literally upstairs) with a 10-pound backpack (water, some snacks, photo gear) under 35ºC and I was already feeling I could use not carrying the backpack

Only the top plate is plastic - same as K-1 and as the K-new will likely be..
