No, this is great news!!

Now, just maybe there will be an FA35/2 at KEH to buy!! The DA* 55 might encourage a few FA50/1.4's to show up (although I already have that one)

Start hyping the new lenses now! it sthe best way to get bargains on the current/old stuff.

I think that it will be a price issue as well. I don't expect the DA 55-300 to be even close to the 50-200 pricing, probably double.

It's fairly clear that Pentax have adopted a 3 tier lens strategy, with minor variations within the categories, e.g. weather sealing, metal construction etc.
  1. Kit quality -
    DA 18-55 & DA 50-200
  2. Mid price, high quality optics, composite construction (the major line) -
    DA 16-45, 10-17, 12-24, 17-70, 55-300, DA primes, D-FA macros
  3. Premier quality, weather sealing, metal construction etc., -
    DA* (star), Limiteds etc.
Ah, I see! Thanks for the wake-up!

Hi Asad,
You can safely second me, knowing that I in turn second only the most relieable and sensible people frequenting the Net...
Yes, should'nt it be nice with a (maybe) weather sealed and good normal lens?! But, also see my reply to Cideway.

No way it will be faster than f/1.4. I'm afraid it even won't be f/1.4. A 35mm 1.4 lens is pretty big and pretty cool and also somewhat expensive to make. As Pentax settled for cheap small and not very cool I think we safely can assume this is the FA35 in new cloths.
I hope I'm wrong. But there even is no star assignment to the new 35mm...

So, it may even not be weather sealed? Then the point seems to be... well... thinking hard now... Maybe to differiate from the Samsung lens? I have no idea really. It might be good with a new quick-shift coupled to the SDM focusing motor. It also may be stupid with an old-style quick-shift function because of the double AF mechanisms.

Okay, pessimists don't get dissapointed.

Cheers Jonas!

Yes it'll be very nice of them to weather seal it and give it SDM. If it doesn't happen... *shrug* I'll still get it if it's an F2.0 at least and sharp wide open.

That 55/1.4 seems interesting, but if Pentax thinks that they can get away with a 55/1.4 and not make an 85/1.4 DA, they are sorely mistaken. I hope they do at some point...

e-mail to follow...
