NEW DA35 SDM (not the macro one) on the way

They listened to us and the 35mm macro isn't the only 35mm on the way.. There will also be a non macro 35mm SDM lens (I assume f2 at least)..

The DA*55mm is also going to be a 1.4 and have SDM..

And the zoom isn't a 70-300 but is infact a 55-300... seems a bit of a long range to me?

I see nothing about this on any of the Pentax sites....

Oops, disregard, I just saw the new roadmap.

Yeah!

I wished early on that the 55mm was a 1.4, hopefully it will have the rendering characteristics close to the FA* 85/1.4 that it is maybe replacing (with the 1.5x crop)?

Maybe the 35 is f/1.4 too?!?

I wish I knew... though to tell you the truth even if it is only f2, it would still be tempting for SDM (and weatherproof?)...

I'm afraid the DA35 will be f/2 only. A faster version would be bigger and cooler and as Pentax has settled for smallish and slow this seem unlikely. I also think it is realistic to expect this to be the FA35/2 in new cloths. And good cloths if you ask me; AF with a good FTM is cool. The lacking star may indicate a lack of weather seeling, impossible to know right now.

The 55mm is another thing! Here they declare it will be an f/1.4 lens and the star should mean something. Maybe weather shielding? Optically, again we don't know. I'm a bit afraid they once again will reuse an old construction giving us flare and ghosting wide open together with a lot of CA. I'm surely hoping for a new design that beats the competitors.
This is great news giving new hope to me. What more could one wish for? DFA* assignations? Hopefully Pentax believes in a bigger future and make the lenses suitable for at least an 1.2 crop sensor while they are at it.

Oh no, not MORE new glass to drool over before clicking over to KEH to look for "BGN" lenses...

I'm already dreaming of the 35 and 55...

Any word on timing for the new primes?

Da* 55 f1.4 would be very interesting for sure. That would be high on my list for a lens to have. Joel told me it would be weather sealed and that makes this lens very attractive .... To replace Fa77 ltd??

I cannot wait to have Da 35 f2 anyway. A good lens to own regardless ...

Yes, but DA 70-300 is not on the roadmap anymore, so apparently it would be developed and produced instead of 70-300.

It remains to be seen what would happen to DA 18-55 and DA 50-200 after introducing DA 17-70 and DA 55-300: are they going to be an addition or a replacement for older low-end zooms? I hope DA 17-70 will to replace DA 18-55 offering improved quality, especially wide-angle.

I wonder how the 50-200 will hold compared to this lens. It is overlapped, so I can see a few people jumping for the newer lens if the IQ is good enough.

I think that it will be a price issue as well. I don't expect the DA 55-300 to be even close to the 50-200 pricing, probably double.

It's fairly clear that Pentax have adopted a 3 tier lens strategy, with minor variations within the categories, e.g. weather sealing, metal construction etc.
  1. Kit quality -
    DA 18-55 & DA 50-200
  2. Mid price, high quality optics, composite construction (the major line) -
    DA 16-45, 10-17, 12-24, 17-70, 55-300, DA primes, D-FA macros
  3. Premier quality, weather sealing, metal construction etc., -
    DA* (star), Limiteds etc.
