But why is there a notch on the back in the two views from the bottom of the camera, that the K-3 doesn't have? That could be where you can pull out the screen with your fingernail.

That's not 3mm, but 3 extra mm - you have to add the eyepiece, too.
Even with the extra 10mm or more when wearing my eyeglasses my proboscis still smushes up on the screen of my K10D.

Hi guy's, not related to the apsc but a question as such, is Pentax ever going to bring out a new FF body ? as the K1 is getting a bit long in the tooth now, thanks Ian

Sure. Wait a year and a half max after Knew. Unless 645 get priority first but I doubt it.

Can confirm: my nose is too big for the K-1 with O-ME53 and glasses. It isn't quite a problem, though...

Do you all think the similarities of the K-new's back screen to the K1 and K1 ii provide any clues? Or is it more likely sharing the part from the parts bin? I'm referencing specifically the bezel-under-glass design. It seems like a strange choice for the K-new to use a fixed screen which is a bezel-under-glass without the screen being self-contained in some kind of way. The K3 screen looks much cleaner, but maybe it's just a design choice.

I'm a little embarrassed about all the marketing about the 3mm of nose relief and the auto off eye sensor for the rear screen that was present on my entry level Sony a330 DSLR I bought in 2009. Hardly new tech and though it was convenient on my Sony after switching to Pentax in 2013 I simply learned to leave the rear screen off and haven't missed it. And those 3mm really aren't going to make a difference lol
I agree, I got a big nose and 3mm isnt doing anything. Eye sensor is kind of gimmicky. I don't think I have thought once that I needed one.

Just to clarify what everyone is talking about (as seen in the latest 'Product Story' linked above):

To me, something is certainly going on with the K-new rear LCD. Whether it's flippy or not, it certainly aint the old K-3 rear LCD.

It’s simply a change in design like you See all the time with car, sometime it’s done to reduce time of assembly

No, speculation has it that it is a WR touchscreen and as a result has a different set of engineering design requirements. Expansion, heat, thin glass/polymer surface etc.

You cant just glue a thick piece over the top of it.

Not a flippy screen mate.

Probably true.

Notably, in these photos, there seems to be no visible hinges anywhere (left, right, bottom, top) to support a flippy screen. But the screen does seem a bit wider and deeper than the K-3 screen, and that new notch in the bottom centre of the LCD must fulfill some purpose. It could just be some room for the Pentax logo, or something more technical.

Interestingly, from the EXIF, these K-new/K-3 product photos were taken by a K-1 II on December 03, 2019. So about 9 months ago ... A lot could change between 2019 and a late 2020 release date.

I may be dyslexic, but I don't have that problem with my K01.

Not being argumentative but I’ve never owned a camera with a “flippy” screen. I’m assuming it’s quite an asset if everyone seems to want it? Or do they want it based on the principle everyone else has had it for over a decade? Personally I’m just ready for an upgrade...
