The US launch prices for the Canon 10D and Pentax *istD were, as far as I can ascertain, $1,999 and $1,600. They were the two I considered when I decided to move to a DSLR, around 2004. I can’t recall the Australian prices at the time, other than they were similar when I looked at them. I considered the Canon because I’d previously used a Canon Ixus Digital, which was a well-built little camera, something I couldn’t say about the 10D, at least from handling one in the shop. The Pentax won me over with its build, as much as anything else.
