I kind of wish that they would release a version with just the bare metal like the good old days.
I would assume you would have to go to some really old days, if you don't mean the silver coloured cameras of the last decades of the last millennium, which were mostly chrome plated brass bodies. They exposed the bare metal only on worn down edges.

In the ‘good old days’, my “ME/SE” died after exposure to the mist at Niagara Falls, which was not good.

Weather sealing was not much of a thing in the 60’s and 70’s, let alone earlier. Pentax pretty much set the standard in the dslr age with the K-10d.

That was precisely my point.
There were downsides to the 'good old days'.

Olympus did. Their E-1 was launched in June 2003, more than three years before the Pentax K10D.

Quite nice. I'm liking what I see so far. It looks to be one very well built camera.

But yeah. Speaking mainly for myself & probably a few here as well, the main selling point for me will be the AF performance. I'm just waiting for its release & subsequent Pentax user reviews, website reviews, & YouTube reviews. Those will let me know how much of an improvement Ricoh put into the AF system.

Let's do that. Pentax wasn't the first with weather sealing; they were the first with affordable weather sealing. The E1 wasn't the first either.
The E1? $1699; while the K10D was $899. Quite a difference.

Wasn't Pentax first with weather sealing?
They introduced it 40 years ago....

Not on a DSLR. This is the condition put in mlt's post.
Otherwise... I know the LX was weather sealed, if there was any earlier attempt I have no idea.

Maybe they'll do that for a Special Edition.

I suspect every time something like this is released it's just because of an additional delay in the manufacturing of this camera.

As someone who cracked the K-1 prism cover that shell sure looks reassuring.
As someone who didn't crack the prism cover, I wish it had a GPS or a flash.

Couldn't work out what this was about until I checked out my K1 and KP for comparison. Looks like the K3iii is going to be extra swoopy and compact. I like this attention to detail in the aesthetics of the design.
