OK I finally nominated a lens.
It's like having to choose which of my children gets to live. I am a lens lover - and I agonized over this. In the end I don't think I selected the "best" lens - but I selected the one that spoke to me today. Weirdly I don't know any other way to do it.

I nominated the one that, if I had to, I could live with forever. Strangely, not a zoom

I was encouraging a member to nominate a lens which he considered to be good.
I am willing to believe you nominated a lens that you consider to be "legendary".

I've just finished pre-processing and validating the submissions! In total, we saw 287 lens nominations. Of those, 35 were invalidated due to a missing photo, missing lens (lol?), ambiguous lens, duplicate submission, or invalid lens (non Pentax mount). A few dozen were missing links, but I was able to identify the lens based on the post/EXIF and correct those submissions. This leaves us with 252 valid nominations.

In total, 107 different lenses were nominated. The top 20 lenses received 137 (54%) of the nominations.

Here are our 20 finalists. These lenses will all advance to the next round, which will start around the beginning of February:

Other interesting statistics:

No third-party lens was nominated twice
Every Pentax lens launched after 2014 (our original lens tournament) was nominated at least once, and 7 of these became finalists
The top 4 lenses from our 2014 lens tournament are all once again finalists.
SMC DA Limiteds saw more nominations than their HD counterparts

Oh well, if I do happen to win, it will probably be a lens I don't already have and wouldn't purchase for myself.
