Perfect board room manure! If that is true, it explains a lot. Overestimating your potential buyers can be a disaster, but so can not thinking beyond the inside of your window. Compelling to whom? Pretty damn compelling to those of us outside of Japan. Especially if it had PS. I might be more interested in a 100mp crop frame camera that has it than a FF one w/o.I agree with you that a FF model would be new, and would immediately differentiate Pentax from Fuji, its main competitor here. And I hope that they see the value of supporting the system beyond those elderly Japanese guys....
OK. I should probably keep my opinions about systems I don't use to myself. This was just my observation and it's not necessarily how Ricoh views the system.

I think you use your 645 equipment for museum/archival work. I know that Ricoh is aware of that category of users because they had a booth at CP+ a few years ago showing how the 645z is used for that kind of work.

In one of the new cp+ videos they show the new da* 16-50. It looks like a slightly shortened dfa 70-200. Not a lens for me but looking forward to seeing how it performs.

There’s a scenario that could be appealing to a broad range of photographers with the 645Z and a couple of its developments, which is to keep the present 645Z (assuming the sensor can continue to be had, and I think I read somewhere that it might not be) as a cheaper entry-level MF body (as they did with the 645D for a while), but provide a couple of variants: one with the higher pixel-count crop sensor plus PS and the other with a full-frame sensor. Both of the latter would benefit from the improved AF system in the K-3iii (the eye AF would be good for portraiture) and the better glass in the prism.
I see it exactly this way as well. It might even be possible to tweak the "low end" Z just a bit to make it more attractive

Whether or not their margin on sales would be attractive enough to invest in the redesign is the question, but that would involve the transition of existing systems or components to an existing and fairly capacious body, rather than ground-up design on all counts, which would have to be considerably more expensive.
Yes again. I'll add that their capacity to have 3 medium format bodies at the same time may also be a question, and then there is the matter of what sensor to put in the low end model, as it may be the existing one is no longer made. And I feel the same way about the lenses---I'd wager there are ways to improve the existing models w/o a ground up re-design, and maybe a way to make a higher end version of a couple. I've already discussed elsewhere the possibility of using the 6x7 45 as a base for a tilt-shift lens.

Of course, you can imagine more sophisticated variants with removable viewfinders, like the 67 bodies or the LX, but there’d be a lot more development involved, and I doubt there’d be sufficient of a market to justify it.
no....but worth thinking about....

Looks huge. Likely optically pleasant. I wonder how much coverage is available on full frame?

haha, the typical crazy pentaxian question. Judging from previous discussions pentaxians will view it as near flawless on FF, just a bit of vignetting wide open... it *will* probably we way better on FF that most of the vintage lenses people rave about. That doesn't say much though. You will pay an awful lot of money for that vignetting wide open.

HUGE. Or the camera is so small, but last pic. Nope, huge. I think I go 20-40 Ltd. instead. Still probably will be great lens for people who need such.

BTW - anyone knows what the heck is that know on pentaprism? Above SR button?

It does not look so much larger than original 16-50. just a tad. Focus ring is bigger. DA*16-50 SDM is not so 'small' either. It does fit well to my hand actually.

If I’ll have this in the other shoulder 16-50 plm + K-3III and DFA*70-200 +K-1 on the other shoulder, it would make nice combo for many events them(lenses) having similar look would be so nice.

I'd post an answer in the dedicated thread about the new HD DA* 16-50mm PLM AW:
HD Pentax DA * 16-50mm F2.8ED PLM AW is the second one. - Page 4 - PentaxForums.com

This is what I’m thinking right now. Focus on the 20-40 Ltd is fast and quiet, and I’m rarely wanting f/2.8. Light and compact is important to me at that focal length. Keep saving to dump the Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 for the DA* 11-18.

I'm sure this will be nice, but I will wait for testing against the Sigma 17-50.
