I love the drip drip drip of their introduction and the information about each facet of their design philosophy. Did anyone notice Wakashiro San called the Mark III an active field camera??

Yes:

Officially, the K-3 Mark III is an "active field camera".
I hope they'll have a lot of material about the new AF - not necessarily before the camera is launched, but at least afterwards.

That's about the only area where I've seen no particularly strong claims of improvement, other than the increase in focus points and area coverage. We've seen this before - everybody hyping themselves up for some amazing AF revolution that then doesn't arrive.

They certainly must be taking a lot of care, the time they're taking to get it to market...

Agreed. Who knows, perhaps they’v managed to get some of that precision in this new camera too. As they have been suggesting(OokU). It clearly is not the same Pentax we have been seeing last yrs. And still, it is.

I guess the guy responsible for implementing the new SD card protocol was an intern, he only spec'ed 1 UHS-II slot. State of the art - 5 years ago.

Their marketing of all the "attention to details" leaves me a little flat when they overlook something big like the SD cards. Olympus did the same thing, right before the end... DOOOOM

Indeed. There are patents granted to Asahi Optical Co., Ltd and mentioning Shigeru Wakashiro as inventor dating back to 1998.

What does "active field camera" mean to this group? Is it about the rugged build and weather sealing? Does it imply good for landscape photography or wildlife photography?
Anyway, the improved mirror motion seems like a definite plus.

In Olympus' defence, the OM-D E-M1X has the dual UHS-II slots and seems to get all the same perks as the E-M1 III.

As for Pentax, I suspect the K-3 III Mark 2 will have dual CFexpress or SD Express card slots (since XQD seems to be dead). It's really the one obvious and easy way to further supercharge this camera. Based on the published specs, even the UHS-II slot seems to be creating a bottleneck when you push continuous shooting to its limits. Part of me wishes they'd realised that those willing to pay the announced launch price will also be happy to purchase a pair of CFexpress cards. The SD Express standard may have been too new to still receive consideration, and I don't know how those are/will be priced (not sure anybody really knows at this point). Perhaps Pentax is avoiding CFexpress for space reasons, but it does play to one of Pentax' weaknesses at this point, the never-clearing buffer. So perhaps we'll see SD Express rather than CFexpress, and that's the reason it isn't included in this iteration of the Pentax flagship.

Anything you want it to mean. Although, I don’t think Ricoh meant this to be an in the studio static subject or portrait flag ship - leave that to larger formats.

Since so much has been made of the sturdier prism housing, it might be referring to that. I for one would like to see Pentax take leadership in the area of weather-sealing back from Fujifilm and Olympus, and Ricoh is really an ideal partner for that, with their specialised cameras for clinical environments and so on. (Iirc they have one model you can just drop into bleach or something to that effect, to disinfect it - perfect COVID camera!)

Well, if the K-1 is a 'field camera', I'm guessing that an 'active field camera' is more action oriented but still very robust and fully weather sealed
