[New Product Story Vol.8] Aperture coupler is (sorta) back!

Product Stories of New APS-C "K-3 Mark III" Vol.8 (Wakashiro) | PENTAX official

According to Ricoh, the K-3iii not only records the aperture of K/M lenses to EXIF, but it also does stop-down metering automatically when the shutter is pressed, removing the green button step. It enables TAv and Av with older lenses.

IMO this is as close as we will get to the aperture coupler coming back and I'm very glad they did this quality of life improvement.

That would be an unexpected and welcome highlight of the new camera. And may affect my purchase decisions.

That’s a smart feature. I wish other camera companies were as thoughtful about features like this.

A very nice feature. Bypassing the green button is time efficient.

Time to go digging for more antique K-series lenses in the street bazaars of Hong Kong

"Thoughful" is exactly the right word. I have a KP and am not likely to get a K-3III, but I may get one of its successors down the road. I'm very pleased to hear that Ricoh/Pentax are keeping their legacy in mind in the creation of new products. Well done! Good on them! Bravo!

I think Pentax know their base customers. Just that features can bring sales for the new K3 III for lovers of old lenses. Smart move Pentax

I find it interesting how long they kept this feature a secret... makes me wonder, what other surprises they have still left to unveil before it launches.

I'm curious if this is just software, or the metering system reacting faster than before.

Splendid move! I wonder whether they have other such tricks in their sleeves.

This seems like a firmware feature? The stop down metering is linked to the shutter half press instead of only the green button, and the aperture value is entered by the photographer via a dial. All to say, I'd love to see this on my k1ii.
