This is an important update for the system in general. I think we will see this new interface and touchscreen in the other models to come, which is a great thing.
I think this is a position I can totally share! I might not be looking for a high speed camera and the KP-line is more my style (okay, just add GPS to it) but it is exciting to see the development of the system.

I would totally expect much of the interface and functionality to find its way to the eventual KP revision...
And heck, the eventual K1 revision as well...

I think what I’ve seen so far is good news for the lineup in general.

I love that rear LCD 'home' display - clear, sharp, bright, modern

It seems that this addresses at least some of the AF issues DPR and others like to rag about while ignoring other features.

Off topic- whenever I see your handle I think of my old rep in Congress, Fred Upton.

I have met him a number of times over his career.

It looks like an amazing camera. I wish I could make a (legitimate) case for buying it.

I thought the folks who tested the K1 said that crop mode did not improve the buffer because the entire image was still captured in RAW.
So it might help the buffer on the K1 for jpegs, but I think that’s nearly unlimited anyway, isn’t it?
No, the K1 saves a genuinely cropped file in APS-C crop mode. However, in 1:1 mode it saves the whole file.

I'm not a tele shooter, but a 150-450 mm Telezoom would give you the equivalent FOV of a 1080 mm FF lens on a K-1 (if my math is correct) while still retaining 16 Mp
A crop mode gives you a narrower FOV, but no increase in magnification at the sensor

Still trying to find the money. A KP would be nice also.

Still on the fence about it until I see the price.

Yes at this stage I am either going to buy KP which is still an excellent camera and matches the modern products or switch to other brands. Let's see. But I am not happy with the Pentax pricing to be honest.

Why Pentax becoming out of pockets now?

Middle class people like me are being left with no option but switch to other systems which are becoming more eye-catching. IDK...
I'd switch up a class. Problem solved.

Alternatively.... forgo having children.... might help save the planet as well.... but really.... in this case.... you could probally afford medium format.... or if forgoing a female child ...... leica stuff.

That was what I was misremembering, thanks... and the 1:1 mode was something of an afterthought anyway, though I'm glad it's there.

I almost never get close to the buffer limit with the K1, but it's been a while since I did a lot of heavy sports...
