New half mirror OVF&EVF Hybrid Viewfinder patent

(19) [Publication country] Japan Patent Office (JP)
(12) [Kind of official gazette] Published unexamined patent application (A)
(11) [Publication number] JP 2021 - 1922A (P2021-1922A)
(43) [Date of publication of application] Reiwa 3(2021) January 7 (2021.1.7)
(54) [Title of the invention] IMAGE TAKING APPARATUS AND IMAGE TAKING METHOD

(57) [Overview]
[Problem]
To provide a photographing device and a photographing method capable of performing a suitable (smooth and no time delay) finder display even during continuous photographing.

[Means for solving]
The superimposed display mode setting unit sets a superimposed display mode in which an optical image by the finder optical system and an electronic image by the image pickup element are superimposed and displayed. The continuous shooting mode setting unit sets a continuous shooting mode. When the superimposed display mode is set and the continuous shooting mode is set, the movable mirror control unit prohibits the movable mirror from rotating to the mirror-up position and maintains it at the mirror-down position.

Pentax! Just when everyone else is forgetting about mirrors altogether. I don't really understand it though.

Man, those flow diagrams at the end take me back to a different lifetime.

Pity I don't read Japanese. Is the applicant Ricoh Imaging? Is this for a fixed lens camera? Pellicle mirror?

All those flow diagrams makes me think this is a process and not a mechanism that is being patented.

I have been expecting something like this to show up already for a while. Obviously not that easy to do. But is it Pentax/Ricoh applying or someone else?

EDIT It says Ricoh Ltd in the documents

A new Ricoh patent about hybrid viewfinding.

What I really do not understand is how they want the mirror fixed "down" when in continuous shooting mode in hybrid viewfinder mode.
That would block light permanently from going to the main sensor I assume.

Any secondary (e.g. the metering aux sensor) sensor would still see the subject, but that's a 640x480 pixel thing.

a half mirror like Sony A99ii,
But A99ii is fixed.
The Ricoh new patent mirror still can up-and-down movement.

Was there not a Ricoh patent for a variable reflectivity mirror sometime ago?? This would be the ideal application..

Fits with their reaffirmed commitment to further evolving existing DSLR technology. Patents like the one you digged up show that they are busy trying to do just what they announce, which should be a good thing.
