Just a couple of thoughts. I skimmed through the website and they do a very good job of presenting its capabilities (an effective marketing presentation). There is one location, a small Revolutionary War allyway of old row houses that's only 15 feet wide, where this would be really nice. I've shot this location a couple of times, and it requires something this wide with a shift capability to cover the entire height of the row houses (3 to 4 stories).
I do have the old Pentax K 28mm shift lens - and one capability that I really like about it is - that you can rotate the shift to any of the 12 clock face positions, thereby providing excellent coverage of the scene (if you shoot all the positions - the you wind up with coverage of a full frame 645 image). The Laowa Shift lens apparently only provides the capability to shift up/down and left/right (essentially only shifting to the 12, 6, 9 and 3 o'clock positions). Yes, that does cover the majority of the situations you will encounter, however being able to shift to any of the clock positions provides that extra capability - and for $1200, that would be really nice. The image circle is there - it's just the mechanical ability that apparently isn't supported.
I just did a little figuring - at 11mm and shifted 11mm - the effective resulting focal length is 6.8mm (horizontal) and 8.6mm (vertical). Ok, I cheated and used an online website.
