DA*55/1.4 available already?

I don't know if this has been posted before, but this eBay seller appears to have them......or at least that's what this listing implies:

Pentax smc P-DA* 55mm f/1.4 SDM Macro Lens 21790 - eBay (item 120332123749 end time Dec-10-08 16:01:44 PST)

I get a different info on the topic each time I ask ..... when I last asked my local store, he said it would be available early december for 499, but when I asked last week a Pentax official during an event at the same store, he told me it should come out (same time as the 1.4 Converter) in spring 2009....and that it would be more close to 600 than to 500 ..... future will tell who is correct.

Interesting. But no where else have I found the word "Macro" used to describe this lens. Pentax Imaging (USA) certainly isn't using it, and IIRC it's not listed as "macro" on the lens roadmap either.

NaCl(I'll be more trusting when Adorama and/or B&H has it)H2O

The DA* 55 is no Macro at all, it has never been supposed to be.

Macro lenses are: DFA50, DFA100, DA35. Enough I think. BTW, a macro lens opened at f/1.4 would probably be of weak quality. We have to chose: speed or macro.

adorama is listing it for sale, with no mention of it being a pre-order or on backorder or not in stock yet.????

For $800 it had better be MUCH better then the FA 50 1.4 eh? Price seems really steep to me....

$729 here 21790 Pentax SMCP-DA* 55mm f/1.4 SDM Auto Focus Lens for use with Pentax Digital SLR Cameras.

It's only been on the market for a few days. I'm sure the price will change a bit over the next year. I paid $500 for a 2x CD burner once. You can't expect the same level of price drop on a lens as you can other products but I bet its down in the $650 range next year sometime. I shoot outdoors in all weather so I would have to pay the extra dough for this lens. If you keep your lenses warm and dry I'm sure there is no need for an upgrade. So far I've been very happy with my sealed DA* lenses in some extremely nasty conditions.

Looks like the same story again: Early adopters paying more... :ugh:

Anyone brave enough to bid on this eBay auction deserves to pay US$799.95... hmmm, smart seller, buyer to pay upfront, then waits... meanwhile seller sits on the money

By brave you mean not thinking at the moment? Whos to say buying through this seller will get you the lens any faster than adorama? And adorama will drop the price for you if it drops before release.

It is no replacement for the FA50, it replaces the FA*85/1.4 and is priced as such.

It is listed at Swedish dealer Scandinavian Photo at 5795 SEK, which is US $683. But as a rule of thumb camera equipment translates at a 1:10 ratio, which would mean a US price of something like $550 - $600.
