Sure, they aren't paying an engineer to design it, but they are paying people to create it. That's resources that could be better served elsewhere.

making them "resources"? (i.e. money) That it doesn't work as marketing as well?
Are you sure you know better than them about the intended audience? Don't forget this is the second J Limited series, after the KP (they would've noticed if nobody ordered these).
Are you sure there's a more effective way to use the money? Are you sure Ricoh Imaging is "paying people to create it", when the design changes are from a third party?
