I’d had my KP for just a couple of months before I gained enough confidence in it that if ISO12000 is needed, then that is what I use.
I don't currently go over ISO 1600 on my K3, but 3200 or 6400 would be nice to have. If they were usable, I'd be able to set say f8 as the default aperture with the DFA 150-450 and still get a bearable shutter speed.
I have seen a lot of photos in other forums using other brands at ISO 6400 with good results.
I don't know how much post processing was required, but the amount of detail in the images seems surprisingly good.
There's also the statement by Pentax that the image quality is improved at low ISO, so I want to see what they means.
