Please, please, please be f1.2.

Or at least sub-f1.5.

What would be the point for a f1.2? I mean to replace (or at least provide an alternative to) a highly acclaimed 850Euro FF lens with an APS-C 1000 Euro one? In this focal length there is still a significant size differential between a FF lens and a APS-C one so my guess is we're going to see a reduced version of the FA31 in a smaller body with the amenities of DA* family for something like 550Euro.
Unless you're thinking about this DA*30 as a replacement for the FA43LTD in equivalent FOV considering the sensor size. But a 30/1.4 that will be close to the FA43/1.9 on FF will be without any questions a lot more expensive than the under 500Euro FA43 costs.

So my bet is same optical formula as FA31, f1.8, Aero coatings, 9 rounded blades, reasonable price.

Regards,
Radu

f1.2 would provide the same DOF as 50mm on full frame, thus killing the whole DOF argument for FF. The extra light gathering ability would also allow you to run at a lower ISO thus killing the high ISO performance aspect of FF.

Hey Gooshin, I sense another pool opportunity coming on! I'm confident Pentax, in their current pedestrian, mid market approach, will not be trying to match any standards outside of price. If you look at all the modern DA and DA*, there are no surprises aperture wise, thus I'll throw $5 on f2.

10% side consideration: Pentax still do a good business on the FA31. If they make this lens 1mm wider and equally as fast (not that f2 makes a big difference) then they eclipse the FA. If its 30/2, its still respectable, predictable, will still have all modern weather proofing/SDM amenities yet leaving the mystique of the FA intact.

I think I'll join in this betting pool. I recently saw some EXIF data on a picture taken with a k20d showing 30mm and f/0. Yes, Pentax plans on releasing a lens with infinitely large aperture, I'd like to see Leicas response to that. Of course the down side is it will probably be infinitely large, heavy and expensive, but it will show people that Pentax is able to put out pro products, no matter how few people can afford or need them.

Can we raise the stakes in this pool?

It will be "head shot" for Pentax. Do you image price level for such lens? Even if 55/1.4 is so "un-cheap". Guess price for 30/1.2. I bet it'll be $2000 or even more.

... and the price would be accordingly high, thus killing the APS-C is cheaper argument
