You lucky people who don't live in Aus
Other than an " Easter sale " or the " black friday sales " the price of any camera model released stays the same price for the life of the camera.Or sometimes goes up ( K70 from $ 800 -to $1100 ).

In the UK it's not dissimilar - except right at the end of life, where prices will drop - but the K-1ii is still £1,799, for example (except, as you say, on sale) - and many of the (even more recent) lenses are above their launch price -some quite considerably

Not really, prices usually drop considerably after a year or a bit less. The K-1 II can be bought for £1,699 at the moment and that's been the case for a while. The silver special edition was available with grip for £1,499 for quite some time. When one off ends another starts - free grip, free lens, cashback, whatever, but in under a year the price drops. It's a similar story here in Spain, though the offers are not usually so good or the prices so low, I assume because people have less expendable income to spend on luxury goods so they're priced higher. Pentax is also almost non-existent here as a brand.

It's almost non-existent everywhere in the world with the possible exception of Japan. If you shoot Pentax it's because you choose to and willing to go out of your way for it. You didn't just pick it up on a store shelf because the box was pretty or someone recommended it but that's all you know.

Choosing to shoot Pentax means you know what you want and very likely know why.

Now that would be a nice motto for PentaxForums as a whole.

The 5+ stops of SR Pentax have touted are usually rated at 50mm. It's less as the focal length increases.
It appears in this case the 5.5 stops was at 85mm.

"* Still image, shutter speed conversion. * Compliant with CIPA standards. When using f = 85mm, HD PENTAX-DA 16-85mmF3.5-5.6ED DC WR"

In the US, prices are allowed to slowly drift downward. The KP began "high", had drifted down to about $1000, and just before I had decided to purchase one at that price, it suddenly dropped to $700 on Black Friday 2018; its price may have changed by small bits in the next few years, but never exceeded $800 after that. I see that B&H now has the K-70 {which was about $200 below the KP during the past two years} priced at $550. I expect the K-70 replacement which includes the K-3iii enhancements to eventually cost about $1000 here, but I don't have any idea how long it will have to drift downward to reach that level.
