IMO, in time (yes I know...) DFA 24-70 and DFA 15-30 will be replaced by Pentax designs as these should rather be in-house DFA* designs.

There are other priorities though, and the whole thing is slow enough already so...

There is usually no discount for early adopters, premium kit is sure to have some eye candy like a strap thrown on top of intro priced camera/ lens, it will be very nice though.
The original silver limited edition K-3 came with a matching grip and a very nice leather strap with "K-3 Premium Silver Edition" stamped on it. What more could a lad want?

I don't see why? In the age of diminishing sales, every strategy for producing more with less must be exploited. Sharing development costs with Tamron or Tokina or whoever makes sense. I doubt Ricoh feels any compunction to re-invent those particular wheels anytime soon.

However, joint development may become more difficult for Pentax in future since the major 3rd party AF lens manufacturers are shifting almost totally to mirrorless development.

P.S. I opened a new thread so that the title would be visible... rather than posting in the "next week" thread (because 23rd is not next week, right?)
That is incorrect, the other article said it would be released next week which would be the week starting 29th March 2021.

I think Pentax should keep the DFA 15-30 and not replace it. It is a fine lens and I don't know that they could improve it that much. On the other hand, the DFA 24-70 is a lens that is adequate but has a lot of room for improvement. It is one of my most used lenses and I like it, but I also would be interested to see if Pentax could improve its performance -- particularly wide open edge sharpness, etc.

I think all standard zooms have some weaknesses, but it feels like they could do a little better with a DFA *24-70.

I do agree. I have 15-30. I like it as it is. I did not go for 24-70, because of it could be better. I bought 28-105, because it is a nice compromise. If Pentax would make DFA*24-70, I’d buy that. I’m sure that it could be what DFA 24-70 is not.

I’ll propably buy DFA21 limited. And even if there would be really nice 15 mm with filter option too, DfA15-30 would still hold it’s place. Unless there would be DFA * 16/17-35 with filter threads . As far as I know, only that wide with some sort of FF function is 11-18 from 16-18 mm. (Which is actually why I’m thinking of replacing my DFA 15-30 to that and buying K-3III to get that zoom range, but also UV ‘17mm’ FF prime with filter threads yeah. I’m still cooking that thought ...

THAT is incorrect.

On the basis of the first two tweets above, and on this sole basis, Pentax Rumors mistakenly titled their article 'Pentax K-3 Mark III to be released next week' and correctly wrote in the article itself 'Several new Pentax products, including the K-3 Mark III, are already listed at a dealer/online store and will be available for pre-order next week.'

Previously I thought that the backorder dates (14/04) on the CRK website may have been significant for a release date, but now I am wondering if they may be significant for an AU pre-order date given the Nokishita tweet suggests a release just over a week later? Or maybe there is no significance at all other than a routine stock shipment .

(BTW, nice avatar, is that your truck?)

Prices at some Japanese retailers have been published by Nokishita Camera (see https://twitter.com/nokishita_c/status/1376465905253707780 and https://twitter.com/nokishita_c/status/1376483815862898694):
  • Pentax K-3 Mark III Body: ¥279,800 incl. VAT (10% VAT in Japan)
  • Pentax K-3 Mark III Premium Kit: probably ¥319,800 incl. VAT.

The price of the camera is roughly equal to that of the K-1 and K-1 Mark II at launch (¥270,000-275,000).

There is no lens included in the so-called Premium Kit.

That's understandable - a Premium Kit would require a premium lens, and then the whole thing would be too expensive.

I would be surprised if some of the big retailers don't offer kits with a selection of lenses. Perhaps the DA 20-40 Limited might be a popular match.

Ricoh were pushing the KP as a good match for the Ltds - I suspect they'll want to push the K-3iii as a match for the more conventional lenses - but that's just my thought

IMO the right kit lens for the K-3iii ought to be either the PLM or just go ham and pair it with the 150-450

They’ve sure shown it with the 20–40 Ltd a lot in their demos. Might be a stand in until the new DA* 16–50 PLM is available.

Oh, I will, for sure. My DFA 150-450 is already squirming in excitement. However, a great deal of effort has gone into making the K3iii as compact as they can get it with all the "flagship" features. Why ruin that with a big lump of a "kit lens"? This is why I think the Limiteds are a more compelling match.
