The impressive, concerted, on-going marketing for the K-3 III brings me much solace in a market where Olympus is being sold and Nikon is bleeding out. This proves Ricoh's commitment to the brand and it brings me a lot of joy to see they aren't intending to gut the brand, cannibalize it, or sell it off, and in fact intend to stay true to the history and meaning behind Pentax without selling out (I love their 5 point mission statement, tbh). It brings a lot of confidence investing further with the brand.
Yes. In addition they have said that the K-3 series will continue with a Mark IV and V in due course. This a statement that they believe in the future higher end APS format DSLR's. That the K-1 name is reserved for FF cameras implying that the K-1 series will continue as well. It shows that Pentax do not believe that the DSLR is dead. This must be hard for all the nay-sayers out there.....

Simply curious, but have I missed mention of the dynamic range?

EDIT: As a matter of fact I'd be appreciative if some kind and knowledgeable member could explain how it's typically derived. Is it as simple as counting EV steps as someone had told me regarding his Sony? I don't think so.

As for EV the K3 III looks to range from -4 to +18.

I appreciate that it is well written but it could easily have been done without actually seeing the camera. It will be interesting to see this in actual reviewers hands. Yes even dpreview.

So $50 for one extra D-190 battery to go along with the two almost new I already have for the K1 ( I will no longer buy third party, and for good reasons), $150 for UHS-II SD cards, and one more Spider handstrap for $30. That's on top of the K3 III at $1976.

The quest for compelling photos is expensive. There's a reason the user age-range tends to lean towards the old guys.

i have had no problems with third-party batteries, and hate to pay the extra cost, but I won't tell you how to spend your money, nor does this seem the place to discuss battery source yet another time.

I'll consistently get one or two black frames on first use with my K1 using a 3rd party Watson. I've never had the same thing happen with authentic Pentax D-190's.

There's is apparently a very slight amperage difference between the two, enough that the K1 will have sleepies with the Watson. Takes an extra kick to wake up. I'm not the only one to ever notice it.

Shorthand, but thanks for pointing out the complete battery model name. I sometimes get a bit sloppy.

D-LI90(E)

My point is there’s no 1 in the battery used by the K-3 iii. It’s D-LI90(E) if one wants to be super pedantic, I guess. The KP and the K-50/70 use the D-LI109 battery, so D-L190 is just asking for confusion.

Oh, I agreed with you. I used sloppy shorthand.

The only Watson’s I have ever used were a set of AA’s and a single battery for my Q-7, both of which have worked fine.

I have used a “Wasabi” for my KP;
the Watson charger I originally got with the Q-7 battery shuts off by the time it reaches a 90% charge - but considering the cost difference, I’m getting my money’s worth.
I also have a “Kastar” for my KP; it works the same as my “Pentax” batteries do.

Yes, I got a couple of 3rd party batteries, and one just went dead---so, even though it was 1/2 the cost of a Pentax battery, it was no savings since I threw that money away. So, Only Pentax batteries for me. I pick up a new one every other year---I think I have 4 now? Not a big deal in the grand scheme...

A very good point. I have 2 colleagues at work, both of whom studied photography in school, and one might indeed be a better pure photographer than me. Both are young. But the gear is a struggle for them. Doesn't help that their income levels have them living in sketchy neighborhoods, and one lost all his gear from theft.
