This sounds like pre-orders have exceeded expectations.

I would have been right there with you, but I stupidly didn’t convert a prepaid Visa that I had money on into an Adorama gift card until right when they started taking preorders. Didn’t want to do it in advance in case Ricoh was taking preorders a week before Adorama was. Turns out it takes some time between when you buy an Adorama gift card and when you can use it. (If they could take multiple credit/debit cards for payment, I would have just used up that prepaid card and then put the rest on a credit card. But they don’t.)

here may be the good news:

just got off the phone with Adorama customer service to find out about my " back ordered " purchase ( my earlier attempts had been through " chat " ) and good news

they confirmed that they had only received 7 orders for the Pentax K-3 Mark III DSLR Camera Silver Premium Kit with D-BG8 Battery Grip so far

and they do expect to receive more than that number from Pentax.

so they say mine will be in the first shipment they get from Pentax
K-3 III - I bought one! - Page 3 - PentaxForums.com

so if the person on the other end of the phone was correct, it looks good for us

I was so hyped when I got my Ricoh USA email at 5pm EST that I almost ordered another premium kit. Then I thought about all the lenses I could buy with $2400 instead. Hmm?

How are you defining “modern”?
You could purchase something like five lenses priced like the DA 55-300mm PLM.

only the photographer can be the cause

It still April 30 in Australia. So I expect some reports a full week earlier from PF members in N America.

I also got such an email - interesting is on every photo K3 is with companion of 20-40 lens.
It would be a deal - to sell it together!

That's a lens I don't have, and it is not at the top of my to-buy list. However, at the right price, it would be a very elegant match for the new camera. They do look handsome together.
