I think it can be assigned to a function number and used from the back screen to select quickly.
The video makes a point about being able to use the new Smart Function interface for that.

I actually really liked the video, hah. The pixel-focusing mode is super cool! I'd actually use that...
By the way, they posted the article at DPR's main page: Going out of this world with Neil Buckland and the Pentax K-3 III: Digital Photography Review

Watch the video...it is a form of focus peaking (a.k.a. edge-extract focus peaking).

Steve
Got it !
Thanks Steve.
Edit: I did watch the video and this this pixel focusing sure looks like what I have on my "old" Fuji XE-2 .... very smart.

Great video.

Has Ricoh enabled control over the focus peaking color yet?

with Extract Edge there is no need for color control. Only the edges are emphasized and the actual subject is kind of monochrome. The feature needs to be set up as a smart function to allow you to frame the subject then switch to Extract Edge for precise focus, I'm setting up a user mode called still life and will incorporate the focus peaking smart function.

Thanks, Larry. That indeed looks like a useful function. I was more wondering about "standard" focus peaking. The white edge can sometimes get obscured by the subject color/brightness. I think that Sony allows control over the color.

No control over colors that I can find, maybe a firmware update will come. What I did find out is you can absolutely not start out with Extract Edge on in live view you have to frame the subject then switch to Extract Edge.

It's a good and honest video for people who don't know Pentax and this new Pentax K3 III.

No doubt. But it's a clever kind of advertising that may actually help to get people interested in the K-3 III and Pentax who previously wouldn't even have considered it.

Was there anything dishonest about the video?? It was a well made video and it probably imparted a bit of knowledge about the Mk III that non Pentaxians would probably have missed. So what if it was advertising??

Awesome video! They accidentally cut off the "I" for "In this video" in the YouTube video description.
