Pentax price increases in Australia

Would anyone be interested in having me check their gear?

I am from Australia but in Canada, I can get the lens, take test images then send it to you. I'm thinking 10% of the cost of the lens as a fee for my time.

BTW as much as i love home, Australia must be the most expensive civilised country on earth for consumer goods. We know the gouging on camera gear but my brother bought a 52 inch LCD for $2500 that is $1100 CDN (about $1400) over here. My Lenovo laptop is some $800 cheaper here than back home, a leather lounge $1500 more!!!!!!!!.

I had out house painted top to bottom for $2200, back home that's what .... $6K?

Don't start me on houses.

Hi Guys, I'm a new K200D owner. I only just got in at the end of the stock for $615 with SMC Pentax DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 AL II lens from JB. Had to take a glass cabnet unit for the body though.

(2 days ago).

Anyhow, the lens that comes with it has no where near the zoom we need.

I'm looking to get a SMC Pentax DA 50-200mm F4-5.8 ED Lens. Would prefer to buy local and support local business if possible (Ipswich / Brisbane .AU area). But if I have to I'll just order off the net. I see them for AUD$246.50 on a web site + $19.95 postage (NSW).
I'll go to $300 tops if I can pick one up locally. (New), so if anyone knows of stock for that price or better please let me know.

I tried Ted's and they were a waste of space unfortunately.

Our prices are disgusting in .AU, no wonder we tend to buy online these days.

Just buy one used, browse craiglist in the us somewhere and it's like $100USD used.

Should have got our Canadian friend to get me one. Camera store in .CA had the Pentax DA 50-200 for CAD$145, even with shipping and fees it would have come out to about AUD$220 tops.

I've ended up ordering one through a local store they matched a .AU internet price with shipping for $266 so I am happy with that as I get to buy local and inspect at pickup.

The .AU Pentex distributor is getting really peaved at parallel importing but what can they expect. .AU prices are a joke and getting worse by the day.

My next lens I want is a Pentax DA 55-300 I will most likely be forced to shop abroad for this one. So if anyone see's any really good deals in the future, please keep me in mind.

I would like to say that Pentax lenses have gone up in Australia a fare bit but they are still cheaper than the competition such as Nikon and Canon and give them a run for there money with quality. I would still have no hesitation to buy Pentax products at the current prices as my K20D kicks but compared to it rivals.
