The way i look at things, if you really need that lens/lenses, it is best to buy them now than later as with the price increases, you could be potentially spending double than what you should be.

not really, when i'm seeing K200D + DA18-55 Kit for about 40 bucks more

as Eva said, 565 for bodies now (DCW). makes the $899 K-M + DA L 18-55 look stupid

IMO there are multiple sides to those prices increases:

* All brands do increase, so there's no question on blaming Pentax rather than general economic situation and currencies conversions.

* European prices may not inrease ar increase to a lesser extent, depending on Yes -> Euro rates (I didn't follow the evolution so I dunno more).

* For those who already own lenses, think that you may get more out of your lenses if you consider selling them. So there's still a little positive thing here.

All in all, I'm strongly sorry to you folks (US, AUS etc..) who badly feel the price increases. Furthermore for those EUro guys going to US for buying lenses/camera, it is bad for them as well so... Really I feel sorry for you.

I'm not too sure how t will reflect in EU... Time will tell.

I don't think anybody is blaming Pentax. They had no control over the fact that the Aussie Dollar has gone from $US 0.98 to about $US 0.65 since July. There is an Aussie Distributor, however, which is copping some of the blame. They did not lower prices when the Aussie Dollar climbed to $US 0.98 earlier in the year. They have certainly raised them when the Aussie Dollar fell from that pinnacle.

It would be nice if Pentax distributed themselves down here in Oz. The Aussie distributor has a very bad reputation - well earned I hasten to add - amongst clued in Aussie buyers

Some rates are the same

The rate for the K20D is still the same at AUD 1299 and the sigma 17-70 too. I guess the price increases are for the Pentax Lenses?

Yup. between the OCAU Pentaxians and ^Catalyst (ironically, a Nikon shooter), we've pretty much given the K200D + DA18-55/Sigma 17-70 OCAU's seal of approval

Incidentally, Teds are promoting the K-M + DA L 18-55 on TV. that'll make a few more pentaxians.

though, at 899, why? that's 16 less than the K200D + Sigma 17-70. When do they lose exclusivity?

EDIT: sir_bazz and SupremeMoFo are somewhere here too...

Spoke to a Tamron rep earlier in the week.

Tamron prices will be going up after Christmas so still have a few weeks of grace.
