Pentax price increases in Australia

I've just discovered that the retail prices for Pentax/Sigma products will increase in the near future.
Increases due to increased production costs and the weak $$$.
Australian retail prices are ridiculous now and once this increase comes into effect, they will be laughable.
In fact some increases have already started - DA 18-250 was $700 and is now listed at just over $1000.
Pentax maybe harder to find in stores, as I can't see much selling at these prices.
I wonder if all brands will be increasing prices or is it just Pentax & Sigma?

Back to buying from overseas for me.

Oh No!

I can see that Pentax 100mm macro (or Tamron 90mm macro) sailing off into the sunset! Without me!

Thanks for the heads up Daz......

Don't forget, the Aussie Dollar has fallen off a cliff since early August. It's not surprising that Pentax (and Sigma) prices are rising. I guess in my situation - don't own a Pentax yet - my choice is to get in quick at the "old" prices or buy overseas.

It's the same on this side of the ditch. About a month ago I purchased a DA* 16-50.... they've now gone up by about 25%...

Very true, however I'm just giving everyone a heads-up. Were the prices 25-30% lower when the AUD$ was higher 6 months ago??

Not sure about Tamron. I did notice a small decrease in Tamron prices of about $30ish since last week.
I'll try and find out a bit more info tmw, if I can...eg. when all price increases come into effect.

Spoke to a Tamron rep earlier in the week.

Tamron prices will be going up after Christmas so still have a few weeks of grace.

With the Yen going up, I'm not that surprised. I just hope they don't jack the prices too high, otherwise they'll have to bring them down again for lack of sales.

And I feel so bad that I only got a Tamron 28-75mm before the prices go up. Next year would be the earliest I'd be able to feed my photography budget again.

Price increases for Pentax effective as of 26th Nov. Some stores have old stock and if they choose, will hold off on increases till they require new stock. Tried to get a DA 12-24 today at the old price listed on a website...no luck, not in stock at old price only at new price which is $250 extra at the store I contacted. Try again tmw, somewhere else.

The retailer I spoke to isn't too happy with the increases on most brands (35%+ on some items)...things might be tough after xmas.

I was warned out about this at the start of the month. A 15% rise across the board for all brands.

Some items were bought in bulk before the dollar's collapse but now as they run out, individual items will rise. No one is immune and it is not just photography affected.

It is amazing how global trade works, now local exporters are laughing after suffering a high valued dollar. It is the price we pay for being the 5th most traded currency despite our small size. Because of our stable government and reasonably good economy, we become pawns in other people's games, as they seek to make profits in currency trading. I just wish I had some currency to trade!
