Ricoh Imaging registers new camera R05010

Digikame-info has a report that Ricoh Imaging has registered a new camera in Indonesia.

https://digicame-info.com/2021/06/r05010.html

By Google into English https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&u=https://digicame-info...06/r05010.html

They mention that it is unlikely to be a Pentax, but I'm not sure why they know that. It is also unlikely to be Theta, because Theta is typically register by Ricoh and not Ricoh Imaging.

Therefore their expectation that it is a new GR model.

It's not much to go on, but it looks like something new is coming.

Thanks for finding this. Speculation on a K-newII would be amusing but alas. Wonder what a new GR would be like?

This was found through Nokishita originally.

Incidentally, the Google translation of the digikame-info report includes the phrase "under the eaves". This is because Nokishita actually means "under the eaves". I'm not sure what the significance of that name is.

Wasn't there a rumor about a new GR?

Yes. That was mentioned by a contributor here lemono. He mentioned a monochrome model and another version coming later with a different lens.

The GR III is still the best selling advanced compact over here in Japan and I think it has done well in other countries too. Extending the line makes more sense than making another version of the same thing.

That would be the most disappointing interpretation. Has anyone seen the bottom of the WG-7? The code number would be on the label and if it was R05010, it would settle the matter.

My bet is on R05010 being the recently announced Ricoh WG-7.

Former registrations:
  • R01010: Pentax K-1 Mark II
  • R02010: Ricoh GR III
  • R02020: Ricoh Theta Z1
  • R02050: Ricoh WG-6
  • R02060: Ricoh G900
  • R02070: Ricoh G900SE
  • R03010: Pentax K-3 Mark III
  • R03030: Ricoh Theta SC2
  • R03040: Ricoh WG-70

Because R05010 has been registered with the Indonesian DitJen SDPPI (Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya dan Perangkat Pos dan Informatika = General Directorate of Resources and Equipment, Post and Information Technology) under the Ricoh brand ('Merk' in Indonesian, coming from the Dutch language, same word as make in English ), not under the Pentax brand.

The fact that the WG series is made in Indonesia might explain why it is registered there too.

Somehow it feels too soon for a new GR. But perhaps I'm just too used to Ricoh's slow pace...

And several years later when our hair became grey due to the stress caused by anticipation a new camera saw the light . Unfortunately it had no flippy screen and no EVF.

New camera registration monitoring is a little like train-spotting.
