Waiting for Pentax to release new lenses is like watching a striptease. Really knows how to builds up the anticipation. :P

Not bad Pentax... 11-18 + 16-50 two stars apsc for for all tastes in two years.

Interesting. Is this a Pentax design or a rebadged Tamron?

I was just asking about the current version of this lens when someone mentioned the updated version in the works. I think it'll be too rich for my blood, but I'm curious how it performs in case I see one pop up later on in the used market or I happen to turn this hobby into a money maker.

Tamron doesn't have anything like it in other mounts and I really doubt they are going to release something like this for Canon or Nikon dslr's. It is all about mirrorless now and Pentax is more or less alone in the aps-c dslr market.

It's Star glass, so in-house. No one else has a 16-50/2.8 APS-C DSLR lens, anyway. Sony did, but it's an old A-mount so definitely nothing to do with this.

The older DA* 16-50 mm f/2.8 was not a Tamron, it was a TOKINA, just like the DA* 50-135 mm f/2.8 ED and DA 12-24 mm f/4 AL, both excellent lenses.

No, the Tokina was a Pentax, if anything. Same deal as the Tokina Opera 50/1.4 (which is a rebadged Pentax D FA*)

Yes. As long as they don't loose to many people because of the weight.

Pure Pentax.

That's backwards. Tokina licensed the designs, Pentax created them.

Oohh, not like Pentax to put any effort into publicity. No new info there but I suppose it can't be long to wait
