It's good to see that Ricoh are moving towards a release soon. The wording in the video implies that it will actually be in stores during August - not just formally announced.
I read, I think in an official mail from Ricoh, that in August it would be available to pre-order. There was no mention of an availability date but I imagine that won't be until at least September.

Yet the official video says a bit otherwise:
  • Japanese version: 2021年8月、販売開始予定。= 'Sales are expected to begin in August 2021.'
  • English version (less specific): 'August 2021, Debut'

I agree with Mistral75 on this. Typically in the way Ricoh Imaging communicates, "販売" (pronounced "hanbai") means the date when it will be available in stores and customers will start getting it. They use another word for the moment before that when they officially announce, NDAs expire and you can place an advance order. That date it usually about three weeks before the on-sale date. So it makes me think Early August is the time by which they would have to announce officially so that it would be in stores by the end of the month.

It’s good to see Ricoh delivering the goods, but as a K-1 owner, I only have one question: “But what about the DFA 21 Ltd”?

If you simply count pre-orders as sales (a matter of semantics) then that resolved the discrepancy.

I would suggest you take a look at @JPT's post above. He lives in Japan, therefore knows what he's talking about.

A couple weeks probably won't change too much the situation (but earlier is better, obviously). We should be seeing something more in the coming couple weeks, I guess... Full specs, some samples. Maybe some articles/special site like for the D FA* primes?

Looks realistic to see it towards end of 2021.
Both lenses to be around one and a half k-bucks.

I wish that were the truth!

Still, I think that is what they are saying here.

Speculation, or did you get an estimate from a source? (Not disagreeing... Sounds about right)

Set of "realistic" speculations.

Hope you are wrong about the price of the lens. I can pay 13 hundred, no more. 😁

- because the mount is different - one DSLM, one DSLR - one can not share production lines?
- a lens is defined by its optics. If the manufacturer is different the result is different?
Mirrorless benefit from the shorter registration distance. One of the main complaint when mirrorless users use (or adapt) lenses made for DSLRs is that they are unnecessarily long.

Can that really happen 😃 since we're beyond that point already.
The point that we "truly" expected?

word has it that Pentax sources a lot of its glass (but not all) from Hoya
All lens manufacturers source their glass from a few glass manufacturers. Corning, Hoya, Schott, a few others make almost all the glass on Earth. Nothing strange about that.

Unfortunately that lens has two issues right from start. First one is, that it will be first and only DA* or * lens that does not have any sort of focusing scale, so in pitch black, dark night sky or with strong ND filter you are done as AF has nothing to catch and all you can do is do try/miss procedure multiple times.
Other issue will be price. I don't believe it will reach below $1600 or €1600 in EU. But is it going to be 3-4x better optically than mighty Sigma 17-50/2.8 which cost around $400 here?

Well well.... If Ricoh creates K3m3 + 16-50/2.8II kit and offer it for €2200.. I might be interested. Otherwise K3 & 17-50/2.8
