Having used Pentax cameras using both proprietary and AA, I'm less hot about AA batteries (I use Eneloops). It may be convenient but you only need to have one to go bad and it will affect the power capacity of the camera. Secondly the voltage fluctuations can be a hit or miss thing, one moment the battery level is full and the next it's at the half mark.

With the K20D, battery life is indeed an improvement over the K10D and better than the KxxxD models. I dare say Pentax fares much, much better than Nikon in terms of battery life. With Nikon, the lens based VR is a battery hog and something friends of mine who have the D700 complain about.

Thats a shame - I think it fills the gap between what I've read about the K-M/K2000 and the K20D nicely.

Hope the support for the K200D (firmware upgrades etc) continues as it has for the K1xx models.
There has never been any firmware updates for the K200 and since the camera has been out for almost 9 months I'm not betting on any at this point.

It looks that k200d is exiting, is in the list of "Models discontinued in the Japanese market".

Yeah you are right I've read the thread, and checked again to confirm it wasn't a repost, I guess I need to sleep more.

Since we now have a true entry-level DSLR in the K-M/2000, I think that Pentax would do well to upgrade some of the features on the K300. Even though the pentamirror on the K200 doesn't bother me, a pentaprism wouldn't hurt, either. If Pentax were to add a second front e-dial to the K300, that would be enough for me to put the K20 up for sale and pick up the K300, as the ergonomics of the K200 that I already have are better for my smallish hands than the K20. The more advanced features like faster FPS, greater ISO range, and improved live view could distinguish the K30 from the K20.

I see the Pentax lineup having something for every level of shooter:
K-M/2000--novice
K300--novice-enthusiast
K30--enthusiast-professional
K3 (FF or medium format)--professional or hobbyists who have more money than they know what to do with

Just my 2˘...

A second lease of life!

The power of K200D owners' prayers are awesome!

The K200D is no longer listed as discontinued...
Digital SLR Camera Lineup : Digital Cameras : Imaging Systems Division : PENTAX

We can all rejoice now. It's back to a 3 camera product line-up.

I totally agree with this!

I have a K200D but the viewfinder is definately lacking.

AA power is great. I refuse to buy a custom lithium powered device any more.

Please add Pentaprism to the k200D and bring out a new kick ass model.

I'm considerring selling my already second hand K10D to get a K200D just for AA support. But now that I got spoiled with pentaprism I don't thik I can do with pentamiror. Darn, where is that "just right" camera?
I hope they have a sucessor for K200D with pentaprism and better sensor while they keep the AA batteries. Perhaps K30D will have AA support hence the new (smaller) body design

That's a good news to me as a K200d user. My camera is still not part of what we call " history"..

Hey, I was going to resurrect this thread but I see it´s already been done.

I´m a newbie & fairly set on the K200D as the DSLR for me but I do realise that it´s a fairly old design now by modern standards. The K-m / K2000 really doesn´t do it for me. Would it be a bad move to get a K200D now? I mean, it still compares well with other manufacturer´s current offerings at this level/price (Canon, Nikon, Sony) & I see it as better but if there´s a K300D around the corner... probably on introduction it would be out of my price range but maybe the K200D price would drop. Canon has the new 500D & Nikon the D5000 but these (on release anyway) are far more expensive than the models they are "replacing", because they´re far better specced.

Opinions?

K200D is not so old - it was announced on January 2008. And according interviews with some pentax representatives, it will be replaced at the end of this year. And after announcement there will be the same situations that with new canikon cameras - it will be far better specced and far more expensive
