Honestly since neither the K-1 or 645 series have AF performance as their main focus (we really need to stop making this joke
), it would be comparatively easy to upgrade the cameras with the new electronics. I can't really speak for the 645 successor, but the only painful part of using the K-1 is its sluggishness with data processing. Make it act snappier, add the new OVF (which should not be nearly as hard to upsize as the development was) and extra touches from the K-3iii - joystick, top LCD - and that's it. Everything else can stay as it was without much extra development.
I was just yesterday shooting with my K-1, and I have been lately using mostly my K-3III. Today I switched back to K-3III, AF and all is just so much more intuitive, snappy, AF really works...While I was walking in rain today I just said to my self that they should make that new K-1 soon. Nice camera and I have got plenty nice/great photos, but yeah, update is needed. I know that there are many with their K-1II to wait for the same update no one would have K-3II had in couple yeas later.
About that VF, If they just would use brighter prism, I'd recon it would be good already...now make it a tad bigger, while you are at it... no one would be interested of that price tag
